No Democrat has held the post since the 1970s
By BOBBY ROSS JR.
Associated Press

DALLAS - One-time migrant farm worker Lupe Valdez made history this week when she became the first woman and the first Hispanic elected Dallas County sheriff, not to mention the first Democrat to win the post since the mid-1970s.

3. Bush has wrongly stereotyped many good Texans.
Remember Texas gives us Willie Nelson, Molly Ivins, Jim Hightower, Janis Joplin, Ann Richards, Dan Rather, Walter Cronkite, Bill Moyers, and many more progressives too numerous to list.

6. There were 2 LTTE in the DMN about this race
One was praising the fact that her her sexuality was not brought up as an issue in the race.

But the second writer was pissed at the GOP for not smearing her. He stated, I kid you not, that the fact this woman is a lesbian will affect how she does her job.

I thought long and hard about just how being a lesbian would affect her ability to be sheriff. The only thing I could think of was that she would not support her deputies in any gay-bashing activities.

Anyone else got any ideas about just how her sexuality would affect her job?

7. Read about it again on
commondreams.org in an article in the Guardian. Lifted my spirits abit since I have been down all day today because of veterans' day and the creation of more war vets for no good f**king reason.
