Who would have bigger coattails? |
|
While the issue of who becomes President is of extreme importance, another important issue is whether the candidate will have the coattails to possibly regain seats in Congress. Right now, I think that the candidates that have the best shot to beat Bush are Dean and Kerry. However, between the two of them, I see Dean having a much more positive influence in the Congressional elections. I am not trying to bash Kerry here. But the problem that I see is that he is trying to appeal to the moderates and more conservative people who feel that military service is important. But will these people vote for Congressional Democrats, or will they split their tickets, and vote for Kerry, but also vote for their Republican Congressmen? With Dean, I see him bringing in new voters, and those new voters, having been inspired by Dean, will most likely stay with the Democrats for the other races.

1. I say Bush has the strongest coattails. |

As his numbers continue to drop, so will those of Republicans in/running for Congress, IMO. So he does have the strongest coattails, but they will likely be negative. (Barring another 'terrorist attack' or war)
Regardless of our nominee, I think we will benefit from Bush's weak downward coattails.
