Faux Hosting 2 Dem Forums, Calls 'em "DemoCRAT" Not DemocratIC
Yes, their promos say, co-hosting with "The Black Congressional Institute", but the title of the extravaganza is "DemoCRAT Candidate Forum" - not "Democratic". And the blurb says, "To help YOU decide" - as in, you-Faux-viewer, haha, like the Faux viewer is going to vote Dem. Wonder who the moderate moderator will be, Rita-loves-bad-boys COSBY? Bill-O? Brit? Whorealdo? There's nothing on the Faux website, but here's a press release.

Today, U.S. Rep. Elijah E. Cummings (MD), Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), U. S. Rep. Bennie Thompson (MS), Chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus Political Education and Leadership Institute (the Institute), and Mr. Roger Ailes, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Fox News Channel, announced that the Institute and Fox News Channel will hold two presidential debates this year.
The debates will be held in Baltimore, Maryland, on Tuesday, September 9, 2003, and in Detroit, Michigan on Sunday, October 26, 2003. ....

All nine Democratic presidential candidates have confirmed their participation in both debates. Fox News will nationally air each debate live.

"We are pleased the Congressional Black Caucus Political Education and Leadership Institute has chosen to work with the FOX News Channel, America's leading cable news provider, in offering this important public service," Mr. Ailes said. ....

The CBC Institute is governed by a Board of Directors comprised of members of the Congressional Black Caucus and private sector members from academia, advocacy and policy organizations, labor and business. The Institute is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to educate African-Americans and others on key issues of national policy.

.... For the past 19 months, FNC has been the most watched cable news channel and currently presents seven out of the top ten cable news programs. Owned by News Corp., FNC is available in more than 82 million homes.

1. Any Media critics on this?
I would suggest that we email Howie Kurtz but he seems to have been neutered lately. Too bad Howard Rosenberg retired last month.

2. I noticed that too!
I almost expected them to say Demon Rats!

Any doubts as to "fair and balanced reporting" from Faux?

BTW, in the UK there is open warfare between the BBC and Rupert Murdorch, with the BBC practically calling Murdoch a media despot that is using his vast media holdings to spread his conservative ideology.

3. why in God's name are they letting Fox do it?
Don't they have any clout with C-Span? BET, for heaven's sake?

Frankly, I'm disgusted.

5. Hmmmmmm, this is really interesting
I think this is good. If the questioning isn't too ridiculous then this forum will be capable of sucking up perhaps 5% of the right-moderate vote for the next election.

6. FOX's subtle racism
This is another of FOX's little secret inside jokes they subtly share with their racist audience. O'Reilly had a long interview with Sharpton, for example, just after the midterm elections, the punchline of which ended, pointing to the Reverend, "So this is the face of the new Democratic Party." This is typical of FOX. They continually try to identify the Democratic Party with African-Americans like Shapton or Jackson as objects of ridicule, as if to say, "See what will happen if you vote for them."

7. I have heard reporters on NPR & elsewhere use "Democrat" incorrectly
as an adjective. I don't know if they're closet Repugs or if they just cluelessly figure "it's the thing to do".
