2. If caught, you'd go to jail
If not, then it'd be as if you'd never done that. But most elected offices in the US require that you have a clean record, so if you want to be elected to anything you shouldn't do that. But then again, the question is, what's so good about being eligible for elected offices when you're dead?

4. What - tore up his draft card?
Anyway, my dad and his friends had a more creative way to dodge Vietnam, which they never implemented because the war ended when they were 17. The plan was to supposedly conspire to kill an eagle - practically the most harmless felony in the US - and then squeal on one another so that they'd be convicted felons and thus ineligible for the draft.

10. They weren't *really* going to kill an eagle
They just *conspired* to kill one. Hey, it's better than robbing a bank to go to jail...

8. Or do the conspiracy-to-kill-an-eagle thing :)
It seems a lot easier than smoking pot, especially if you live in a place where you can't put your hands on any.

11. meditate
A guy I knew learned to meditate and control his
pulse and blood pressure.

He was able to fail the physical by making his
blood pressure messed up.

This was real.

Not this messed up eagle crap.

I hope no dumb a**s are reading you crazed idea
because might fall for your stupid story.

14. In 1979 I was 18 when Carter reinstated SS registration
as a response to the Soviet's invasion of Afghanistan. All our older brothers had been the Vietnam generation and my liberal friends and I angsted over how to respond to this militaristic crap. I decided to go ahead and register rather than hide out because I wanted to face the bastards and register as a CO (conscientious objector.) My attitude was "bring 'em on, mofo!" I planned to make the biggest stink possible if called to 'service' while my buddies didn't sign up to save their own butts. Hell, I woulda done jail time but not today with AIDS rampant in the prison population; that could be a death sentance right there. Whatever you do, don't get into uniform. That is leaving all hope for humanity behind.
Peace, bro.

Is Selective Service issuing draft cards?

No. A card-style proof of registration is being issued, but it has nothing to do with the draft. No one has been drafted since 1973, and it would require an act of Congress to reinstate the draft.

Most Americans over the age of 30 remember the "draft card" which Selective Service issued to each man at the time he registered. For many years there were in fact two cards: the Registration Certificate and the Notice of Classification. When Selective Service began to store records on computer tapes in the early 1970s the two cards were combined into one computer-generated Status Card. At no time was the card officially titled "draft card," but it was by this colloquial name that the proof of registration was usually known.

Selective Service Regulations required each registrant to have his card in his possession at all times. This requirement was removed from the regulations in late 1974, shortly before registration was suspended, and it has not been reinstituted.

I guess if you still have your card from 1974(or before), and made a public show of destroying it, then yes, a political opponent might use that against you in a future election.

18. What draft card?
There's no draft these days. Young men, upon turning 18, are currently required to register with the selective service, or some such. I recall my 20 year old son doing so, but I don't know if he has any kind of selective service i.d. I'll have to ask him when he wakes up later on.
