caught a little of it right now ... and was just wondering if anyone else is watching or caught it tonight.

HK talked about N Korea and the Israel-Palestinian issue.

1. I say send his ass to Chile...
I want to see his ass stung up and flogged mercilessly for the shit he has done to people around the world. I care nothing for his opinions or screen time, I hate the fact that, much like in the past, the U.S.A. would harbor terrorists such as HIM, for being a patriot.

3. Rose kissed his ass bigtime - no tough questions
Edited on Wed Sep-03-03 03:06 AM by eablair3
I can't say I was surprised. Charlie just kissed his ass the whole time -- at least that's the way it seemed.

It was pretty timely for me, as I just saw the film "The Trials Of Henry Kissinger" yesterday, which is being shown this month on the Sundance Channel. The film was a pretty powerful indictment of Kissinger, and it seemed to be well-researched and backed up with evidence. They showed lots of previously classified documents in the film, as well as talking to witnesses on camera that had inside info. There just seemed like there were too many people from different parts of the government and society that would all have to be lying for the film to be false. The film was an indictment of him and claimed he is a "war criminal," and it did seem to back up its claims.

I was thinking that *maybe* Charlie Rose would ask some or even one tough question about this or at least acknowledge and get his thoughts on these claims. But, he didn't. He ignored it. Charlie Rose just worshipped him and stated what a great statesman he was/is, as he pushed his Kissinger's book. It was pretty sickening and pathetic.

2. I hope nobody is surprised if Charlie didn't press too hard on HK
During the summer of 2003 the men at the Bohemian Grove heard off-the-record presentations -no media is allowed - from William F. Buckley Jr., William SaÞre, Charles Murray, George Shultz, Michael York and Charlie Rose. Additionally, there were daily lectures from world-class experts on global warming, war policy, school vouchers, mad deer disease, horse racing, stem cell research, terrorism, American-Russian relations, and marine ecosystem. Concerts, plays, and daily parties rounded out the two-week session for 2003. more...

4. Yep

Watched most of it. Charlie's Sycophantometer was running about 90%.

Basically Kissinger sees Iraq as another South Vietnam. He wants the U.S. to throw a hugh amount of money into rebuilding it and an army of informants so that the military can kill off all the VC sympathiz- oops, wait, make that al Qaeda and Baathist guerillas- and turn it over to a semi-dictatorial Iraqi government ASAP. Neither of them dared critize Wolfowitz or Bremer directly but Kissinger let himself throw a pretty nasty shot at Rice. (I think that means he considers her politically a dead duck.) My assessment: it's a plan motivated by looming failure ahead and he admits it's derived from reconsidering the problem of South Vietnam in 1975. If implemented it will fail.

I couldn't make sense of the I/P discussion. The semi-Likudnik bias was transparent but Kissinger didn't want to make any particularly concrete assessment. I don't think he has a real grasp on the Palestinian side of the situation.

All in all, Kissinger's basic mistake is to make a somewhat outdated assumption that the apparent leaders are all the real leaders in these conflicts. That it's all still a feudal or colonial era world. (An assumption he shares with Chomsky that was true enough in the '60s but continues to diminish.) It's true enough for North Korea but leads him into IMHO misjudgments about Iraq and I/P. As for Charlie, he's giving up on the Administration's neocons now but desperately clinging to straws (such as those Kissinger can offer) that justify his hawkishness on Iraq and neocon beliefs on I/P.
