Many of the strongest Republicans (and Zell Miller) won’t run

next cycle, why? There was a thread here yesterday which referenced the Daily Kos http://www.dailykos.com/ observation that in many races that should be competitive won’t be because the strong Republican isn’t going to run. The Kos even missed the growing possibility that Nickels won’t run in Oklahoma making that race competitive also. It this a classic example of rats swimming from a sinking ship?

I heard Nickles hasn't been raising money. But a lot of the top tier GOP challengers have declined to run.

Even so recruitment is only half the battle. It now depends on how good the campaigns in quesiton are.

2. Bush has disgraced the nation so badly no one what to be a part of the

government. Even the candidates are just going through a show hoping that they lose.

3. They probably want to be in the private sector while the looting is good.

Now that Bush has deregulated everything he could get his hands on they want to cash in without bothersome things like ethics committees. They'll be back when the booty dries up.
