41. Domino's Pizza! :(
Edited on Sun Nov-14-04 09:38 AM by quiet.american
Found this list on
http://www.congress.org/congressorg/bio/fec/?commid=C00366088&page=campaigns&order=TOTAL&cycle=2001-2002

These donations were for the 2001-2002 cycle. Was not able to find amounts for 2003-2004. The only saving grace are the token amounts to Mary Landrieu and Robert Wexler. The rest of the names make me gag -- especially near the bottom.

Candidate

Knollenberg, Joseph (R-MI) $500
Camp, Dave (R-MI) $500
Wexler, Robert (D-FL) $500
Miller, Candice (R-MI) $500
Bonilla, Henry (R-TX) $500
Landrieu, Mary (D-LA) $500
Sessions, Jeff (R-AL) $500
McCotter, Thaddeus (R-MI) $1000
Nickles, Don (R-OK) $1000
Santorum, Rick (R-PA) $1000
Rogers, Michael (R-MI) $1000
Lott, Trent (R-MS) $1000
Cox, Christopher (R-CA) $1000
Hastert, J. Dennis (R-IL) $1000
DeLay, Tom (R-TX) $1000

51. No it's not....
that is a list of stores that happen to belong to the association. If we use that list, and start sending nasty emails and threatening boycotts, the companies on that list are going to be pissed if they contribute to Democrats. It is the Political Action Committees that contribute and it is the PAC money that you should look at.

11. I don't want to pry
but have you considered a natural brand (naturacare is one, the natural foods store here caries another as well)or a reusable product like the keeper? The naturacare stuff is similar to the other brands but doesn't have the sodiumpolyacrylate gel, plastic and other nastiness.

The mass-marketed sanitary stuff is chlorine bleached which produces organochlorines. For health reasons it's a good idea to keep such potent carcinogens far away, I would think.

anything from a farmer's market, most products in a health food store.

Actually, there are a lot of good alternatives out there.

Crap. I just finished a job for Buena Vista home entertainment. Funny thing is, my bosses there were so depressed about the election last week that they couldn't work! They would be appalled to know that their company is on this list.

Oh well, as long as I take their money and don't give them mine...

1.Wasn't someone going to put a complete list of companies that contribute to the GOP together on another thread?? This is the first good list I've seen, BTW.
2. I hate to ask, but is there a breakdown list of these companies somewhere that specifies what products each of them makes? Not trying to be lazy, but that would take me days to figure out! Anyone?Or should I try going to each company's website?
Thanks for all your hard work!

15. Buy from organic food stores, consider the following:

foods that are
. unprocessed
. organic (so people like Mr. Pesticide Tom DeLay don't get richer)

they are healthier

buy in bulk (less wasteful packaging, and less expensive)

buy from organic food stores

http://www.organicconsumers.org/purelink.html

eat less meat, dairy, eggs, and seafood
. especially less meat
. can be done in a healthy way if done correctly
. in my opinion, is healthier
. much better for the environment
. factory farms put animals in tortuous conditions
and pollute our environment, consider free-range
organic meats and dairy

Consider all the advertising for these unnatural processed
foods, it is indoctrination, brainwashing. I remember eating
Wonder Bread. Yuck. Now I eat real bread, it is so much tastier
and healthy. By real bread I don't mean what passes for whole
wheat bread in supermarkets, but bread that is really made from
whole grains. All this processing robs food of its nutrients, and
also of its real taste.

I was reading on another thread and someone had a different source, and I had yet another one, and none of them seem to match up. For instance, your site here says "Land O Lakes" is bad. The other thread said it was good. The other thread said Albertsons was good/Safeway bad and my link said the opposite. AAARRRRGGGGGG.

Anyone know which sites we can REALLY trust to give us the correct information?

36. Albertson's still at the top of my list if I need a supermarket
plus I can walk to it.

Albertson's Inc
$79,118
29%
71% (R)

Publix Super Markets
$128,500
3%
97% (R)

Sometimes I just have to get something quick from the supermarket and I have to weigh the lesser of two evils. With diesel fuel at $2.20 a gallon, I give my vote to Albertsons. The way I see it 71% of 80 grand isn't half as bad as 97% of $128,500.

Land O Lake as an individual company gives more to Dems than Repugs .

GMA link:

https://www.opensecrets.org/industries/contrib.asp?Ind=G2100

and from the same source:

https://www.opensecrets.org/industries/contrib.asp?ind=A04

yes land 0 Lakes gives 51% to Dems. and 49% to rethugs.

Some individuals may be members of GMA yet individually donate to Dems.

I knew that some of the names on the list were OK, so thanks for the reasearch. If we blacklist all these companies, we may end up with some progressive companies on our list. Just because they belong to the organization, and the organization had a PAC that gave to Repugs, doesn't necessarily make them bad.

Some of the individual companies are giving more to Dems than Repug.

I wish that we could put enough pressure on these companies so that they would drop out and bankrupt the GMA. I don't think realistically that will happen.
