Two bright spots in CNN's exit polls...

60% of Americans believe that same-sex couples should be permitted to get married or have civil unions. Kerry won marriage supporters 77 - 22, Bush won civil union supporters 52 - 47 (I'm as shocked as you are.), and Bush won bigoted fucktards 70 - 29.

Similary, 55% of Americans are mostly or entirely pro-choice, while only 16% support an outright ban on aboortion. Kerry won abouy 2/3 of the pro-choice vote (which indicates to me that the Democratic party has plenty of room to grow if Bush goes Loony Tunes on abortion) while Bush won 3/4 of the anti-choice vote.

Surprisingly, 13% of liberals (if they deserve to be called that) voted for the Chimp.

3. the civil union answer (maybe)

according to my mother (R) her two gay friends voted for Bush because he supports Civil Unions and Kerry never mentioned anything regarding civil unions... now I recall hearing Kerry mention he supports Civil Unions but I don't know if he got that message out enough or what... anyway her gay friends voted for Bush because they didn't know where Kerry stands on the issue... i tried to explain to her that Bush doesn't support Civil Unions and that he's as likely to put them into some sort of "Heterosexual Reeducation Camp" as he is to let them have rights... I also tried to explain to her that Hannity hates gays... does anyone have any quotes regarding Hannity's contempt for gays... i tried showing her some quotes from my I hate republicans book but she doesn't believe them...

4. My friend's uncle

is rich and voted for Bush. So did his sister (my friend's mom). So did his partner.

My friend is as clueless as I am. Hey, to some people a tax cut is more important than anything else.

in AZ which is a pretty red state. It's really quite unfortunate because the rich brother was probably able to convince my friend's mom to vote that way too. She was a Gore voter and is a teacher.

8. Gay uncle is republican

The issue to him is economics, he makes lots of cash and loves that cash, and Bush promises him more. Money is better than his right to marry I guess. He is also a big supporter of the war, and a pro-lifer.
The gay marriage issue as he told me. " Was a masterstroke by Bush to turn out all the people that hate me and my lifestyle and they just put more cash in my pocket." I don't really get along with this relative, along with most of my Repugnant relatives. I find their views on the world amazingly simplistic, self centered and WRONG...Gonna be an interesting Holiday season for many of us huh?

10. There were some other good signs

The women's vote increased from 52% in 2000 to 54% this year. That should eventually help us, although we got buried in the white women's vote this year. Anything to reduce the percentage of white men among the total vote works in our favor.

Also, the CNN nationwide exit polls indicated a 7% reduction in gun owning households since 2000. That really surprised me. I'm not sure I competely trust it, because you would think a trend like that would be widely reported. I think it was 48% down to 41%. In general, gun owners vote GOP and households that don't have guns vote Democratic.
