Proposal for New DU Group: John Edwards Supporters
Edited on Sun Nov-14-04 09:36 AM by indyjones1938
A DU Group has already been established for Wesley Clark. Supporters of other candidates are free to propose one as well. Apparently all that's needed is for ten people to reply to this thread in support of the group.

Then all these people together will need to formulate a mission statement before submitting it to the admins of the website. I'll get it started. Feel free to praise, comment, critique or criticize.

Proposed Mission Statement:

The mission of the DU John Edwards Supporters Group is to discuss the role of Senator John Edwards and Elizabeth Edwards in the Democratic Party; to discuss Senator Edwards' policy positions, speeches and writings; to discuss activities of the One America Committee; to discuss Senator Edwards' signature issues of poverty and initiatives for low income Americans, jobs and the economy, education, health care and foreign affairs; to discuss Edwards' expected bid for the 2008 Democratic Presidential nomination; and to provide a place for general discussion of John Edwards and his brand of progressive populism. Comments by individuals who do not support Senator Edwards are not welcome in this group.

Modeled on the Wesley Clark mission statement.

What does everyone think?

5. Please include Elizabeth. They are a dynamic duo, and she will
play a big part in John's political future. And we can stay updated on her health.

8. Ditto here! (oops, sorry I forgot...)
Another formerly legitimate expression has been coopted by wing-nuts.
Yes, by all means. John Edwards' message and resolve as conveyed in his "concession" speech tells me that he and Elizabeth both have what it takes to get this country back on track. Hopefully they will both be taking an active role in the '06 elections.

25. So, once this is up and running...
...I have a lot of questions about the primaries I want to ask.

Maybe we can get an insider to give us some perspective on what happened in 2004.

36. Please stay on top of the irregularities issue.
I'm pretty darn sure that the Greens will be unsuccessful in Ohio, Blackwell is cunning enough to run out the clock making the recount impossible. That will make this a long term issue.

My 12 year old son and I waited for hours to be first in line to see your husband in Tulsa during the primary. We had also attended a Clark rally earlier, and the contrast between the candidates was stunning, I made up my mind that day. Clark was impressive as a very bright and articulate man, well in command of the issues, but without charisma. When he came into the room he could have been anyone.

On the other hand, Senator Edwards filled the room with his presence, he communicated. If Bush won it is because he could pretend what is genuine about your husband, that we need hope, equity and each of us is valuable. He would be a truly great American president.

When he joined the ticket I poured my heart and soul into the campaign. I wanted to tell my children that I had done everything humanly possible to stop Bush and put this nightmare behind us.

If it is impossible for Mr. Edwards to take a stand now due to the politics of the decision to concede, please encourage him to take charge of it in the months to come (after you are well and have had a nice vacation of coarse). There just can't be another election where people have to wait hours to vote, where Democratic registrations are tossed with impunity, where there is no confidence that the votes will be counted and where there is only enforcement of violations against Democrats. There is nothing more important, the systematic disenfranchisement of Democrats makes democracy meaningless.

Thanks.

20. I voted for him in May
Kerry had it locked up by the time of the Ne. primary. So I hoped I was voting for the Vice President slot. It worked. I saw him 5 weeks ago and told him so btw. Shook his hand after the Council Bluffs, Ia. rally. Saw Kerry the Saturday in Sioux City before the Democratic convention started.

Huge Edwards supporter here... devastated when he dropped out of the primary, but was thrilled to see him matched with Kerry. I hope to see a lot more of him and his wonderful family in the future.

(By the way- John Edwards- the TRUE American dream!)

28. An enthusiastic yes vote
And while we're at it, let's petition for a better Edwards avatar. That tiny "John Edwards President" one is OK, but many DUers defaulted to it only because the one with Edwards' picture is semi-goofy. Pretty hard to find a bad picture of John Edwards, but DU is a special place.
