An Orwell quote that has stayed with me for weeks now.
"Anything that hinted at corruption always filled him with a wild hope. Who knew, perhaps the Party was rotten under the surface, its cult of strenuousness and self-denial simply a sham concealing iniquity. If he could have infected the whole lot of them with leprosy or syphilis, how gladly he would have done so! Anything to rot, to weaken, to undermine!"

In light of the so-called "moral mandate", has anyone else felt these words ringing in their ears?

Actually, I can't stop thinking about Room 101, and when will they come for me?

4. I just finished
reading 1984 - again, for the umpteenth time. In fact, my 2nd paperback copy is now falling apart to the point I will need another the next time I read it. It's in about the same condition as Emmanuel Goldstein's book. Each time I read it I get a little more understanding, and more afraid of how true it is becoming. The first time I was 21 and in the Navy. Though there were a few areas I related to I thought the whole thing was a funny fantasy -- not anymore.
