The School Board moved a step closer Tuesday to pushing Planned Parenthood out of local classrooms.
The nonprofit agency has taught a portion of the district's required life management course for the past 30 years. Sarasota County is the only district in the region that allows Planned Parenthood educators to teach students about reproduction, sexually transmitted diseases and birth control.

County schools can provide effective sex education without the controversial group, said board member Kathy Kleinlein.
"When you have a district using Planned Parenthood, there's the appearance that the district is pro-choice," she said.

Since spring, board members have been inundated with e-mails and phone calls from parents opposed to Planned Parenthood representatives speaking to high school students.
