The Plight of Afghani Women is still awful! |
|
We had a huge article in the kansas City Paper this morning about one girl who was sold in marriage when she was 9. Her husband was 48. She was chained up as a slave except when she was free to do housework. She was beaten and raped and sodomized.
According to her husband women just don't think like men. They have short memories. Some clerics tell men to beat their wives at least once a week.
It is impossible for me to even have any idea what that little girl went through.

1. So much for giving them freedom? Or are we supporting their religion? |

7. They use oil to kill themselves |
|
What a life. This little girl had tried to kill herself twice. Once by pouring oil over herself and setting it on fire. I guess that is pretty common - and in India, too.
What is wrong with men that they don't or won't see how awful that behavior is.

8. Plight of Afgan women-- |
|
There will be a program on PBS on November 16--check the listed times in everyones area-on the Afgan people especially women. This is a program written by an Afgan woman journalist about the life of the people, especially women, and tries to encourage girls to go to school. As an american, I cant even think how I could put up with that society, but I would definitely rebel, which they cannot do. Everyone, please do try to view this program.

9. Report this to Laura immediately |
|
She may be able to stop chain smoking for a minute or two to do something about it and if not,or forbidden by her master, at least she will do nothing but capitalize on the fact that she liberated the Afgan women. <sarcasm>
Where is she anyhow? Busy taking down draperies to make a gown with a huge turquoise bow over her belly to wear to the inauguration?

10. In many areas they are for bearing children, and keeping house only |
|
Edited on Sun Nov-14-04 02:54 PM by ismnotwasm
My daughter, who is stationed in Kandahar, told me that there is rampant male homosexuality in her area. Evidently, they don't consider it homosexual, as most of these men are married with children. "Men are for pleasure, and women are for making babies" Got only knows what kinds of diseases these women are getting. Beating your wife and children is an accepted part of the culture where she is. We have diverted resources from Afghanistan, where we had to potential to make a difference, to Iraq. My daughter says we are doing some good over there, but it doesn't sound like near enough. And, of course, nobody wants to talk about Afghanistan, all we hear about is Iraq.
