This Helen Thomas article on the siege of Falluja has me so angry I could explode.

WASHINGTON -- Do Americans of good conscience really believe that we are making the United States more secure by bombing and killing the people of Fallujah?

That's the justification President Bush and his hawkish circle have given for their brutal offensive against the Sunni stronghold as they push ahead for the total military occupation of Iraq.

Why are we killing Iraqis in their own country? And why are our forces being killed?

Amazingly, for me the most infuriating passage in this article is not about the needless death, but the silence and weakness of the Democrats.

"The silence of the Democrats is playing into the president's hands. As was the case with the original October 2002 congressional resolution authorizing war, Democrats are unsure of themselves and therefore unwilling to challenge the president."

This statement is irrefutable and sums up the past four years and the present.

Could this Party be any more weak and pitiful?

They are fucking doormats for Bush and the GOP.

As a life-long Democrat, I am a total loss as to what to do. Why in the fuck should I stick with this dispicable party of capitulation and Republican mimicry?

Maybe because it's the only other game in town? When I was working for Kerry to win, I got so tired of people telling me that both parties are just alike, so it really doesn't matter. I got so I'd ask people, "Can you really say that America and the world would be in exactly the same position today if Gore had been allowed to be President, as he should have been, instead of Bush?" After an uncomfortable pause, everybody I asked that question of acknowledged that it would not be. Enough said.

fulfilling what you expect from a party, then work to fix the system so that a smaller party that appeals to you has a shot.

Dems are in DC only to make sure their pockets are lined with lobby money. If they speak against Bush, the lobbiests will stay away from them.

The Democratic party wants money. They care diddly squat for governing for the people who elected them.

we need to act like an opposition party, becuase we just are NOT in power right now and for the next four years in the least, we need to name shadow cabinet members, who can follow these jokers around and call them out all the time...and offer our alternate vision etc etc etc
