Holidays I just don't get (aka,lying to children,celebrating genocide)
First lets look at how many American holidays their are first and lets find the good holidays.

New Year's Day -Nothing like celebrating another year of the same BS

Inauguration Day-ugh,we are waiting for this day over bush Or Kerry now.

Memorial day-memory of the Honored dead,And most people go on
picnics on this day? uck!

Independence Day-people usually blow off their hands with fireworks this day.

Columbus Day-Celebrates genocide,Columbus did not discover America first, also.

Thanksgiving Day-Pilgrims and Indians getting along and sharing things? nope, another celebration of genocide.

Christmas Day-lets see, lying to the children about Santa, its Jesus Birthday,(not really, his b-day is not known)while most just give gifts to each other, yet most can't afford (too many points)

Groundhog Day-A groundhog sees its own shadow (or w/e) don't get it.

Lincoln's Birthday-sure while he gave freedom to most blacks,he gave blankets full of smallpox to the Indians on purpose. (thought i might point that out)

St. Patrick's Day-lying to kids about leprechauns and telling the children that they are going to have bad luck if they don't wear green

I think thats pretty much it.

put in your comment on how you hate 1 of these holidays or put in your own holiday that your not sure about the history on.
or holidays that lies

1. I hate birthdays.
Why celebrate coming into this evil world where Chimp is the ruler? I pity anyone who is born and is alive today. It frightens me. Why encourage kids to continue living? What's the point? This world scares the shit out of me.

3. I'm with ya on most of them
but I like Thanksgiving. It's not about pilgrims at all for me; it's just about being thankful, and I think that's a good thing. I have to admit, though, I avoid thinking about the turkeys.

8. that is really sad that you feel that way
i wasnt much into holidays and then i had two kids. have changed it all. and they arent even close to how you describe them. surely in jest, but certainly in exaggeration. usually people blow the hand off on fourth of july? not thinking it is usual, more the unusual

10. My kids and I
bake a birthday cake for Jesus on Christmas Eve. (Then we leave a piece of Jesus' birthday cake and a glass of milk for Jesus' friend Santa). We read the story about the birth of Jesus, and I make sure they understand that Christmas is not just about getting presents!

11. What about VOTING or ELECTION days where you may go
Edited on Tue Nov-16-04 12:22 AM by Valerie5555
____________, _______________, HE'S OUR MAN or SHE'S OUR WOMAN if HE or SHE CAN'T DO IT, NO ONE CAN, but you can never really tell if your vote counted or were you felt like you HAD to vote for the predominate party, just to be sure that your vote even counted.

On edit As for HALLOWEEN, don't even get me started for I remember reading in CATS magazine over 10 years ago how it could be a scary or :scared:y time for cats since they could become the innocent victims of who knows what sort of sordid and nasty tricks.

On edit All right I admit it, for my very first Presidential election were I an American, I probably would have chanted "WILLIAM, WILLIAM, HE'S OUR MAN, GEORGE BUSH SENIOR BELONGED IN A TOILET CAN."

On triple edit as for CALGARY STAMPEDE WEEK, "Yee flipping haw," was my sentiments exactly.

12. Strangely enough I used to like Thanksgiving.
At the time it seemed to be a holiday without religous overtones, where you could get together with family and friends for a meal without worrying about if you were offending someone's religious beliefs or if they were offended by your lack of them.

Now I can't even enjoy it. I became a vegetarian, but people always feel they have to accommodate me. They don't. Then there was becoming aware of what we did to the Native Americans. Of course this year there is nothing to be thankful for other than the fact we haven't been nuked yet and a lot to be ashamed of.
