Seriously, I hate to pick on Condi, but she just seems so out of her depth. I guess that's why * likes her so much -- they're in the same situation.

I have to think that Bush is bringing the pointy headed diplomatic corps to heel by putting someone in charge who has never had the slightest exposure to diplomacy, and no interest in it.

Rice is completely and utterly incompetent. For Christ's sake, she didn't even know the difference between Shia and Sunni Muslims when she came into office. Her entire academic career was built around study of the Soviet Union, which has little or no bearing on the world as it currently is right now.

She will be a laughingstock in the rest of the world. She failed in her job as NSA advisor, she'll fail even more miserably in this one. Of course, in this respect, she fits in quite nicely with the general Bush approach to diplomacy....

I think that is what that post is getting at.

She is trained for a different world a different era. Now, of course, as with many specific fields of education it does illustrate the ability to take in and process information (English majors on Wall Street for example)but there is nothing in her job performance as NSC (see 9/11) that shows that she has been anything but a complete failure.
