5. Worst - we try and call N. Korea's bluff and they send a nuke over to HI
just to show what bad-asses they can be.

2. Dirty bomb or real nuke in one of our cities courtesy of Al Quada.

3. Never-ending war in the middle east - Syria, Iran etc.

4. Dollar falls so low and the national debt and deficit go so high that we go into full-scale depression.

5. In the meantime global warming is allowed to go on unchecked and we go on driving Hummers and giving the finger to the rest of the world.

After that, SCOTUS goes completely fascist.

Depressed yet?

15. And on the homeland side of things,
I think they will jam that Constit. Amendment about gay marriage down everyone's throat in the name of God (who in my experience, isn't a "hater," but hey, I know nothing, right?) Then, suddenly discrimination is Constitutional, so gays start losing jobs, they start losing their homes, can't lease apartments, can't buy cars, can't obtain credit. They become a lower level of sub humans.

Then they will start in on the black community...then the mentally retarded...then the women....

And suddenly the WW2 allies will be turned on us, trying to keep us from invading and spreading our hatred everywhere.

7. how bad?
alien detention

our own "disappeared"

complete unfettered corporate control of the nations political agenda

complete unfettered religious-whacko control of the nations "moral agenda" with the exception of abortion (gotta keep those wedges)

(if you think the last 2 items have already happened, you ain't seen nothin' yet)

draft and more wars

will America put up with it?

as long as we get a choice of the red plastic piece of crap vs. the blue plastic piece of crap and decide to call that choice "freedom", yes we will.

12. "How Bad" depends
on whether you sell out and go along or try to resist. Actually, since they own the media, they will probably leave you alone even if you just march or write letters to the editor. What happened after Kent state? Nothing.

8. History has already shown
the depths to which humanity is capable of sinking. Americans, contrary to popular belief, are a part of humanity and just as capable of any other people of sinking to those depths.

I believe that there is nothing that this regime and various groups of RW extremists, such as the theocrats and the neocons, would be incapable of.

I think that the American people by and large are so complacent that mostly they would just sit back and take it. There are many who are so viscous and hate filled that they would eagerly partake in it as well.

I don't know that our country actually will sink to those depths, but it absolutely won't surprise me if we do.

16. The worst? WWIII
as the nations of the world unite against the rogue superpower. Some countries are already talking openly of sanctions. It's not a huge leap to war, especially with a trigger happy moron who dreams of empire controlling the US.

If the worst happens, we will NOT win. The US has stupidly exported its industrial base in too many key areas, and has either scrapped or exported the machinery, making retooling impossible. We no longer make cloth, shoes, vital electronics components, or even enough bullets to supply Iraq.

Of course, Chimpy thinks he's gonna git raptured before the shit flies.

18. For "most" people, nothing will change
Most people live their lives under the radar.. They go to work in a crappy, but self-supporting job...they have lunch at McDonalds, they have car payments on a car they can barely afford...they come home from work to a modest house/apartment.. they have a microwaved dinner..watch some tv.. go to bed. and start all over the next day..

The inner-workings of government is something they have not even thought about since 10th grade civics (if they EVEN had civics in their school). As long as their little world remains viable, they do not even CARE what goes on outside their bubble..

Every 4 years, they can't avoid the commercials, so they may go vote, but they are likely to vote for people in a party their parents belonged to.. Why?.. Because they don't really care.. They have been sold oon the idea that it doesn't matter..

It takes something BIG to wake them up, but even then they wake up one at a time..

A person loses their job to a person in India, and all of a sudden they are tuned into outsourcing, but they may never make the connection to WHY it's happening.. If they find another so-so job, they say "whew!", and that's the end of it.

Most people do not have the time or energy to research and make the connections. They are too busy just getting by..

19. It's going to come in waves
First off will be a defunding of government programs, say goodbye to the new deal and great society. There will be an increasing emphasis on local government, if you want to feed the hungry or do anything to promote the general welfare of the people, well, either local govt. does it or you go beg at whatever fundy hate factory is sanctioned in your sector.

The circuses will be allowed for a while to placate the masses, but electricity will become scarce, we will be walking more there won't be oil available except for the military and super rich.

We'll desend into psychosis attack our neighnors on pretense, get the shit kicked out of us by the rest of the world, fracture and fall apart.

The line about the dead being the lucky ones is about to come true.

20. I lay awake at night thinking about this...
Until recently, I thought certain safeguards would assure we never sink to an unbearable low. However, I'm not sure anymore...

This is what I see coming...

1. A large, possibly nuclear, bomb is detonated somewhere in the US, killing a large number of Americans...
2. Bush blames Mid-East terrorists and, "with his back to the wall," reneges on his "no draft" promise, and orders a draft...
3. GOP Congress is only too willing to accommodate him...
4. Americans, with help of gung-ho corporate media, support an all-out invasion of Mid-East
5. Millions of young Americans are drafted and sent into Mid-East war...
6. Civil rights are suspended as martial law is declared, due to no. 1 above...
7. Economy crashes, however, this does not affect upper echelons of wealthy Americans who are well-vested in Armageddon-free investments.
8. Bush Family and Saudi Family, and others of their ilk, solidify power, ala Bush Sr.'s "New World Order..."
9. Poverty and disease will run rampant as health/social agencies close down due to budget cuts; Medicare gone, HHS gone, NIH gone, etc.
10. Pollution increases due to lack of environmental concern...
11. Slave labor returns in the form of a kind of "workhouse" that will make WalMart look like a worker's paradise, due to erosion of unions, unemployment insurance, and increase in bankruptcies, home foreclosures, etc...
12. Violence and crime increases, but ruling class will live in gated communities and hire "security firms" to protect them...
13. In essence, FDR's "New Deal" and LBJ's "Great Society" will disappear and be replaced by a two-, diametrically opposed, class system: A small very wealthy, very powerful ruling class, and a very large, impoverished serfdom...

Does this sound about right?

21. I would add that within ten years we see MAJOR
signs of environmetal collapse. Dead zones spreading rapidly through the oceans, mass extinctions, huge forest die offs, eventually leading to an inability to produce food...then that'll be about it.

If the Nukes don't fly first, that is.

:-(

The EU has pretty much talked iran out of continuing its nuke program.
the US wasn't invited to give its input.

"huge forest die offs"
could happen after we clear all that pesky brush and undergrowth from the forests

24. Purges at home, possibly following a domestic nuke
Bush is just getting geared up.

All the people who warned us not to compare Bush with you-know-who from a little country in the middle of Europe are going to be in for a big surprise.

History is going to judge us with him. They are going to ask "How could we let this happen again?"

It's only getting started.

25. Nukes all over the middle East, except for Israel. Expect
certain American attractions worldwide to go up in smoke as retaliation.

And I think we will see American children kidnapped soon, as well. If they can do it to the CARE director, they are just one step away from doing it to little kids.

the 2000 election was stolen. It was much more worse than I ever could have imagined.

From that experience, I would have to say absolutely nothing would surprise me from here on out.

The very worst has already happened of course, i.e. the death of the idea of democracy in the US.

37. "gays" will vanish, 'homosexuals' will be vilified in all media
no more Angels in America or Queer as Folk or even Will & Grace, unless Will goes through a Christian conversion and marries Grace after Jack's funeral...

the corporate fascists really can't give much to the 'christian' fascists that put them in power. but, will control of the media they can make the homos disappear (until they're needed to whip up a new batch of fear) from their televisions and they can cheer and praise Jebbus that they've brought the heathen hollywood libruls to their knees....

it may not be the WORST of what's to come, but major backlash against the GBLT community frightens me.

The worst? Absolute worst? That the following will be the list of future presidents and their dates in office:

George W. Bush 2000-2008
Jeb Bush 2008-2016
George P. Bush 2016-2024
Jenna Bush 2024-2032
Noelle Bush 2032-2036 -- captured and deposed from power after being found cowering and sucking on a crack pipe in her underground bunker in northern virginia, while the armies of the Republic of China, Russian Federated Republic and European Community shelled Washington closing in from three directions to end the so-called thousand year reign of the United Holy Christian Dominion States of America.

Folks, this is REALLY, REALLY bad. This is why we all felt sucker-punched- and worse- on Nov. 3rd. We knew what to expect. Now it is coming to pass. I am not sure how we will make it. And these people are doing nothing to protect our borders from terrorists sneaking in with real WMD.

I am not a gloom-and-doomer by nature, but we are SO F*CKED.

40. The return of the botched abortion wards in hospitals
Those old enough to remember the days before Roe v. Wade know what I'm talking about; all OB/GYN wards had a special section for women who were suffering complications from botched home or back-alley abortions - women with perforated uteruses, incomplete separation, severe septicemia. Expect to see the return of those.

Outlawing abortion doesn't stop abortion. It just kills the woman. Only readily-available, reliable, safe contraception and thorough sex education can stop abortion.
