Circling the Wagons: Bush's echo chamber of appointees |
|
Take a look at who, so far, have been named:
Rice to State; Hadley bumped up to her job; Gonzales to Justice
The three most prominent new appointments are people who've already worked inside the White House for four years. Bush's radius of advice extends no farther than to the Executive Mansion gates. He is hopelessly ill informed and apparently intends to remain so.

1. Did we think he'd do otherwise? |
|
I saw this same pattern in 2000 when all his appointees were from the Reagan administration.

3. There's also a weird "fuck you" element to Bush appointments. |

Not only this round, with Alberto Gonzalez- but in the first term as well. Part of it is surely that Bush Jr. is plugged into the same permanent government crowd that his father was plugged into to, but it goes beyond that.
Like- appointing Kissinger to head up the 9-11 investigation. That was just a big "fuck you" to the world. Or how about Poindexter's first appointment in the the first Bush Administration? I'm sure they've only got a relatively limited field of corrupt bastards to choose from, but c'mon- there must've been SOMEONE else to fill those spots.
