get your religion out of my face
Matthew 6:5-6: "And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men....when thou prayest, enter into thy closet and when thou has shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret...."

right out of the mouth of god jr.

no one hates you, we just don't want to be bombarded with your PERSONAL religious beliefs.

we sure as hell don't want them to become public policy.

3. Actually, they can testify all they want.
Whether they're preaching over the airwaves or raving at the bus stop. Annoying? Sometimes.

Keeping separation of Church & State is an excellent idea. But you can't make everybody shut up.

8. They can testify and preach
but they don't have the right to get indignant and offended when I declare loudly that they are completely full of shit.

4. Jesus ain't got nothin' to do with it
The only thing these hypocrites know about Jesus is that he died. Nothing else. I live down here in Texas (pray for me, please!) and I grew up with a different kind of Republican, the kind you can respect. Fiscal conservatives who never gave a thought to social issues. Thought the government should stay out of peoples lives. Then as we all know, beginning with Brother Reagan, the right wing of the party saw they had to re-establish the southern base. Add fundamentalism, mix with racism and misogyny and voila! I've always said the Republicans will destroy themselves, but I didn't know it would take so long and do so much damage in the process.

6. Great quote from George Carlin's latest book,......
"When will Jesus Bring the Pork Chops"

From page 13, where he is talking about how believers in UFOs are marginalized but religion is "Treated reverently and accepted as received truth" in a comparison on how the media treats these two sets of beliefs.

He offers the following as a typical version of a TV news story heard each year on the final Friday of Lent;

"Today is Good Friday, observed by Christians worldwide as a day that commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, whose death redeemed the sins of mankind"

George says "Here is the way it SHOULD be written:
"Today is Good Friday, observed worldwide by Jesus buffs as the day on which the popular, bearded cultural figure, sometimes referred to as The Messiah was allegedly crucified and - according to legend - died for mankind's so-called sins. Today kicks off a 'holy' weekend that culminates on Easter Sunday, when, it is widely believed, this dead 'savior' - who also, by the way, claimed to be the son of a sky dwelling, invisible being known as God-mysteriously 'rose from the dead.' According to legend, by volunteering to be killed and actually going through with it, Jesus saved every person who has ever lived - and every person who ever will live - from an eternity of suffering in a fiery region popularly known as hell, providing - so the story goes - that the person to be 'saved' firmly believes this fanciful tale."

That would be an example of unbiased news reporting. Don't wait around for it to happen. The Aliens will land first."

Sorry Christian DU'ers....but ol' George is right.

12. Ooooh did I ever piss my motherinlaw off
I have asked her numerous times over the past 3 to 4 years to not e-mail me the "God/Jesus" stuff she finds floating around the net. She stops for a while but eventually they'll start coming again in waves. Most of the time I just delete them but after so many I get sick of her ignoring my requests. I don't do it to her. So yesterday I get another e-mail, "This is so Heart Warming", we should thank our Lord for this and we should be thankful to our Lord for that, we own our Lord for, he is the Lord of Life', on and on. So I write her back asking once again 'please do not send me the God/Jesus stuff, I do not believe in god, I believe in the separation of church and state, freedom from religion and the freedom to choose a different religion and yadda yadda please do not impose your religious beliefs onto me unless you allow me to do the same (she won't allow that, I have tried the acceptance and equality road before. Road Closed!), thank you from me' kinda letter.

This morning not a single e-mail, not even the usual benign comics from her. So my husband asks me why did I have to go and piss her off like that. :wtf: I won't even go into that part of it for now:mad: but geeeeez, I'm suppose to just accept her imposing her personal religious beliefs on me and I'm suppose to shut up and ignore it lest I "piss her off?" :grr: Plus I am to keep my differing beliefs to myself, again lest I piss her off x(

I don't mind the kid in school that wants to pray to God before a test or a big game as long as others of different faiths are allowed the same right and courtesy to do the same. But if one is not allowed, then none should be allowed.

I'm with you, I sure as hell don't want any oganized religion governing public policy.

14. I had the same problem with some relatives
One piece I got was something that was used as racist propaganda back in the sixties, I sent it back saying don't send that stuff to my kids or me. Years later they think I am a fruitcake and rant and rave at the drop of a hat. But they have (mostly) stopped sending religious based stuff.

16. I agree
Unfortunately, it seems the Democrats are buckling to the pressure. The fact is there are quite a few devoutly religious democrats, but they adhere to the separation of Church and State and don't wear their religion on their head. I am very afraid this party will soon fracture and we could be looking at a very long drought!
