Now they're drafting middle-aged alcoholics! |
|
Just heard that a guy who graduated from my high school 2 years ahead of me-- 54 years old,and struck me when I saw him recently as a hard-drinking,heavy-smoking sort of fellow-- is being called up with his reserve unit to go to IRAQ!!
I am in shock, being from the generation that grew up in the shadow of Vietnam-- and they're STILL making us go to war?
There's no way that a draft isn't in the wings. I tremble for my children.

1. My Republican sister has two teenagers of draftable age... |

I hope she's happy with her vote when one or both get called up.

I don't think either one of them think they are gonna get drafted. My daughter is fresh out of the Air Force. I'm surprised they haven't tried to call her back in.

9. Air Force people are weird. There's one that I know well that I |
|
hope is not reflective of all of them. She's particularly snobby about being in the Air Force and is working to get all her children to go to Acadamies on full scholarship. This includes pushing coaches and such so that her children can get leadership experience (I love the girls, btw.) for the resume.
But what's most interesting is that when I mention the fact that her children will probably be the first to get drafted, she is absolutely sure I'm wrong. Is there something out there that allows kids to get full scholarships to places like the Citadel and other military colleges without having to pay back the money through enlistment?

wouldn't those elite graduates be the type they recruit to be commanding officers in the combat zone?

15. You would think so, wouldn't you? |
|
But with the two families that I know of, they insisted that they can take these scholarships without any such committment. The scholarships could be for an athletic program, for instance. And from what they tell me, all the degrees at the Citadel aren't all military oriented. Isn't that odd?

12. What? An opportunity for Federal employment?!?!?! |

Nobody is going to do crap even if there is a draft...it won't be fair, it won't be just, it won't be right, and it won't be needed for the survival of the country. - I'm not yet taking odds on the "if" portion of this wager.

13. First, they draft middle-aged alcoholics |
|
Then, they draft old men. Next, they'll draft young men--and women. What will come next? Drafting kids as young as 10?
