If fundies version of heaven is my version of hell, what does that mean

I cannot think of a greater punishment than spending all eternity with the Talibornagains.

It reminds me of my favorite scene in the movie Heathers. Heather #1 is talking to Veronica in the dream sequence at the end. It took me a long time to realise that Heather is not in heaven, "Heaven is so boring, everyone just sits around singing koombyah all the time." Iamgining that bitch in heaven used to make me so mad, I almost didn't like the movie because of it. But then I realised that people getting along, loving eachother is her version of hell. I liked the movie a whole lot more after that.

Could there be anything worse than spending eternity with the most mean spirited, shallow, ignorant people on earth?

It also makes me think of my favorite Mark Twain quote, "you go to heaven for the climate, and hell for the company."

So with fundies and hell on the brain, anyone care to disguss?

3. Why not?

First I don't believe in heaven and hell, but for the sake of a discussion, let's say that both are the same place. So the people who are in heaven are the ones who are wined, dined and given every luxury that they were denied on earth. Those who have gone to hell are the slaves who provide all these luxuries, while they go hungry, are overworked and are otherwise made to suffer. They both occupy the same place, but their destinies are different.

4. Your guess is as good as any

I've come to think of heavan/hell as being dependent on your state of mind....if you have a mind tortured by fear and hate, then eternal fear and hate will be your destiny. (Hell) OTOH if your mind is filled with love and charity, then that will be your destiny (Heaven). The people who spend eternity with you will also be determined by the fear/hate-love/charity scenario. You can be tortured by your enemies or loved by your family/friends/pets.

Since none of us can prove the other wrong, I, like Dante, respond without fear infamy.

5. Do NOT worry; they just think that they are going to Heaven. God

is smarter tham that. Can you imagine GWB making it into the pearly gates after being responsible for the deaths and destruction he has perpetrated on an innocent populace? Stump is a phony; he never goes to church. Just think of how many times you have seen him coming out of a church. I personally remember zilch. People that really believe in the words of Jesus or the Dali Lama or Mohammhed or Buddha or etc. do not rob from the poor and give to the rich.

6. Do everything you can to avoid going to "their" heaven.

Sniff glue. Sell porn to third-graders. Tolerate homosexuals. Say bad things about Rev. Falwell. I don't want to spend eternity with George Bush and Pat Robertson, either. Hell with Howard Stern and Hunter Thompson sounds much more interesting.

7. I think heaven is like that joke about

the guy who died and is met at the pearly gates by St. Peter.

"Come on in, buddy! We've been waitin' for ya! Let's get started on our guided tour. There are many rooms in this mansion." Their first stop is a beautiful room that replicates the most exquisite mosque ever seen. "This is where the Muslims like to hang out"

They traverse down another corridor, and behind an large carved door is a seemingly endless room filled with tables, and a large scoreboard which blinks "I-9". "Lots of Catholics and Jews like to mingle here."

They move down yet another corridor, at which point St. Peter puts a finger to his lips and gestures at the man to tip toe along behind him. They pass by a heavy iron door which is bolted shut, from which the muted sounds of beautiful hymns can be heard.

"What place is that?" asked the newly deceased.

Oh, that" Peter waved his hand. "That's where the Bible-thumping Born agains are. But please now sir, be quiet; they think they are the only ones here!"

8. Your post reminds me of the musings of Bill Maher

who says that at a football game, each side prays for safety for their players and victory for their side. So, who's prayer does God listen to? He also said that we believe God is on our side in war, but the other side believes the same thing, so does God listen to one side over the other? I think heaven and hell are here on earth, not up there, or down there somewhere. I can barely stand to go to work with all the fundies at my work place, sure wouldn't want to spend eternity with them.

Just out of curiosity, many years ago, I started talking to some Mormons (Latter Day Saints)....pretended I was really interested in perhaps joining up. After the 3rd or 4th visit, when they felt comfortable with me, they explained their version of heaven. It is a highly segregated and separate heaven. The "top" or "highest" level of heaven is reserved for white males. Females and non-whites have other, separate, not so cool parts of heaven. When I heard that, I exploded and told them off. It was interesting tho.
