Leatherman Multi Tools harrassed by the Brownshirts

You know the little tools with the pliers files and screwdrivers? Well apparently the poor owner let it out that he supported Kerry and the hate mail has been pouring in.

This guy that wrote them a nasty email posted their response in this thread. I think the owner showed a lot of class in his response considering what he says was said to him.

The right wing has got these people so wound up I am concerned they may breed another Tim McVeigh.

5. It is amazing how wound up they are!

Check out some of the opinions of the people who posted in reply to his statements. Some real cretins.}(

I don't like gun control either, but good god do they think Kerry could pass any gun control with both houses of congress Republican??
Talk about voting your fears and prejudices instead of your pocketbook!!

9. there was a thread at FR about boycotting the Leatherman
Edited on Tue Nov-16-04 07:55 PM by Minimus
awhile back. Mr. Leatherman responded to some of their complaints by basically saying "too bad". Right after I read how much the freepers hated the Leatherman I went out and bought one for my husband.

I will see if I can find a link to the FR thread...BRB

here it is- as usual the freepers are a hoot:

You play, you pay.

I carry a Leatherman Wave on my belt at all times. It is the last Leatherman I will thus carry. I start shopping for a new tool tomorrow.

I just double checked my comment on the leatherman being issued to the Army troops and saw I was wrong. It is a Gerber product that is being issued.

I apologize to the Leatherman fella I called a war profiteer and now am happy to say he isn't getting a dime from Iraq and just like France, Russia, and Germany won't be getting any of my tax dollars.

11. I love how reasonable people are on that board. Fucking nut jobs. I
believe in moderate gun control, but it's not a big issue for me. Those guys eat, sleep and breath guns, apparently. You'd think someone was threatening to cut off their balls the way they scream and whine about losing their guns. What makes gun nuts so rabid about this? I just don't understand them.

16. It's sad

I'm telling you. I know a lot of people like that. They are good people (some of them) but the right wing and NRA keeps them so wound up that they think any firearm control means their guns are going to get taken.

What they don't see, or don't want to see is that the weakening of the 4th amendment, which almost always comes from the right, along with this Patriot act crap will allow any future regime to find all the gun owners and take their guns without needing any gun registration.

The sad thing is 90% of these people are middle class or lower middle class and they repeatedly vote against their own economic interest.

Glad I bought a Leatherman now (one of the little tools - Squirt I think. And support these people and circulate this list. Encourage all you know to buy a Leatherman - make great Christmas gifts. If you don't carry on your person, it's a great tool to keep in a glove compartment, toolbox, office drawer. And drop the Leatherman company a line. Don't let the NRA Freepers intimidate them! (And btw I'm a gun owner myself and sadly I know the mentaltity of some of these people).

14. Leatherman Was Copied By Conglomerate Cooper Industries
Cooper lost a trademark infringement to Leatherman for millions of dollars.

Cooper moved its corporate headquarters to Burmuda to avoid U.S. taxes.

Cooper closed factories all around the United States laying off nearly 10,000 workers and outsourced to China.

Of course, none of the above nearly upsets rightwingers like owner of Leatherman voting for Kerry.

What misplaced values some people have.

19. That's a good article. The thing is I think that a lot of these gun
owners are not hunters or outdoors people. A lot of the hunters I know would be willing to accept more gun control than I would even. However a lot of these people are gun collectors who just buy these things and half the time they just set in the gun safe. City boys who have these things to look bad.

With the rural population shrinking a lot of people buy these expensive military copies because they saw them on the movies. I think it all started with Dirty Harry. After that movie the Smith and Wesson .44 shot up in price like mad.

I mean you want a pistol to shoot and have fun with you buy a .22 target pistol. Home defense a 9mm or 38 is cheaper and easier to shoot. I think the only reason some of these guns are popular is the macho factor. It's stupid. A 44 magnum has so much recoil you can shoot it for long before your hands are shaking and you can't hit shit. AK47's. They are crap. Innacurate, poorly made, but they look "bad" so these dupes buy them.
They don't do anything sinister with them, sometimes don't even shoot them but they don't want anybody to threaten their right to have them.

17. I have a top of the line Leatherman 200
It is possibly the handiest thing I carry. It's quality is great, Gerber, which I carried for a while, is not. It is, as noted, made offshore, and is a copy of the Leatherman. Every car should have one in the glove compartment.

So don't think you'll never use it. Support someone who spoke his mind (and e-mail him about it too.)

36. I agree with what you said about the quality difference
Leftydad had a gerber multitool that he carried at work (he doesn't generally need tools in his job, but from time to time they come in handy in an emergency) and the pliars snapped off one day just loosening a nut. He's had the leatherman he bought as a replacement for years with no problems. I'll definitely buy a few more for gifts.

two days ago... he will be absolutely ecstatic to know that leatherman supports Kerry! (He has a good head on his shoulders and favors very progressive politics..) Anyway, he was telling me how great those things are and that EVERYONE he knows carries one.. but let's see how much longer they are available at military PX stores now that the word is out about them supporting the Dems.
