Progressivism has a history of winning!
Slavery was abolished.

Prohibition came to an end.

Women and minorities have the right to vote.

Many forms of discrimination are now illegal.

Interracial marriage is legal.

Sodomy laws have been overturned.

All of these things were controversial at one time, and support for them would have been considered radical and extremely liberal. But progressive-minded people kept the fight going, and these things are now a reality. As bad as things look right now, we have to remember that we will win this in the end. History is on our side. All the right-wing is doing is slowing down the inevitable. Gay people will one day legally marry. Drugs will be treated as a health problem, not a legal one. All Americans will have access to health care. All of these things will happen eventually. We just need to keep the battle going so they can happen as soon as possible.

1. Hey you forgot tje big one
Government of the people and by the people.....

That is high up there.. and it as very radical back in 1776

(Ok ok, so by 1787 it was government by the propertied while person for the propertied white person, but it was still REVOLUTIONARY for the time)

And this is what is now under threat, what it has evolved into a governemnt of the people and by the people, truly... now if people voted in larger numbers

GRRRRRR

2. Progressivism continues, just not in the U.S.
The torch has been passed. Other areas of the world such as Canada and Europe are introducing things like universal healthcare, decriminalization of drugs, and gay rights - the next stages of the progressive movement. History has left the U.S. behind - most people just don't know it yet.

4. Germany had national health care in the 1880s!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Edited on Wed Nov-17-04 05:37 AM by bobbieinok
it was for laborers and was part of Bismark's plan to coopt some of the socialists' ideas to try to marginalize the movement......but still, 1880s!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and most Germans have between 4-6 weeks PAID vacation, and many receive a 13th month salary as an end-of-year bonus.....
