That sure stinks. I get all of $328/month Social Security, cause I'm old, and the gracious 'owner' of this board wants a 'donation' before I can start a thread in the 'groups' section. Ahh the fantasy of "Liberal Compassion".

you could ask the guy that owns the site privately if he will make an exception for you. I also suggest taking part for a little while before getting all bent out of shape over not having full access to the community.

I donate a small amount every six months because I want to keep this site up. I don't see anything wrong with the owners asking us to help pay for this place since we all get a lot out of it more often than not.

but as you can see, revealing your plight resulted in someone doing you a good deed. Remember this so that next time you over-rule your frustration and employ more diplomacy. Liberal compassion comes alive when awakened to a need, especially if gently wakened.

15. There's TONS of excellent free content on this site.

It's donors who make it free for everyone. If the site's owner, who's doing all of us a huge favor by building and maintaining this massive site to begin with, wants to keep a small number of features (polls, groups, search) at a premium to encourage donations, so what? There's PLENTY to see and participate in without donating, which is incredibly generous. And instead of being grateful for the admins' generosity, you complain as if DU owed you everything in return for the 30 seconds it took to register a username?
