Yes, we can kill 100,000 innocents... |
|
But if they DARE try to retaliate, well.... we'll kill 100,000 more... or something.

There's outrage, there's outrage over the woman who was just shot. Why do you want to put American soldiers on the same level as terrorists who behead people?

"Why do you want to put American soldiers on the same level as terrorists?"
Well, they both execute prisoners. So they are on the same level. The only difference is the "terrorists" are brown. You're not racist, are you?

I wasn't justifying the actions of that soldier, I've spoken against it consistently. I'm asking why somebody would think it acceptable that a US soldier has no higher standard than a terrorist, no matter what skin color the terrorist has.

Let's not disparage those boys based on a few bad apples.

I have no idea what you're talking about. I'm sure there are plenty of decent insurgents who are doing what they think is right for their country. I actually don't lump them all together with terrorists who behead people.

Perhaps because it wasn't shown to you.

7. Its really very simple.... |
|
We, as civilized people, expect horrendous and appaling behavior from insurgents, terrorists etc.
We DO NOT, however, expect our United States armed forces to act like those we are aiming to stop.
Its called 'stooping to their level' and I for one believe America is better than the terrorists and should therefore act like it.
Get it?

10. I, for one, don't think Americans are "better" |
|
But there are a lot of people who do, I'm sure.
I think people everywhere care about their children as much as I do about mine.
I think people everywhere are as interested in living in a safe environment - free of invading armies (&/or terrorists), as I am.
I think people everywhere would rather not have spy organizations and such disturbing their lives, their liberties and so on and so forth...

23. Hmm, well, I have some level of disagreement with you. |
|
Americans are certainly better than terrorists.
These people have strapped bombs to their children in hopes that they too will someday be suicide bombers.
We are talking about how we are better than those that wish to destroy us, not general issues with this shoddy administration.

they have no idea how hard it is to kill only the right Arabs.
Killing a few extra here and there just comes with the territory.
They have no respect for occupation.
Ingrates.

11. Is she more dead than a child dismembered by a "smart" bomb? |

Or, those that have been ripped apart by artillery? IMO the perpetrators are all equally criminal.

I didn't mean me, I meant the Arab world. Al-Jazeera is so busy showing that video 24/7, and people, according to the MSM which I s'pose I shouldn't be watching/listening to, in Iraq are outraged. I'm wondering where their outrage was when their countrymen were cutting off heads?

21. Well maybe much like our media, their media only shows what |
|
benefits their ratings. I don't know.
But I did hear that Al Jazeera refused to show the beheading video of Hamas, the woman from CARE, because it was too horrific.
I found the shooting pretty horrific, so go figure.

our right wing controlled media. They have a message "War is good because Arabs are bad". So you can assume that as in anything, the arab people were just as saddened and outraged at the beheadings as we were. But like the people who say "where was the arab outrage when 9-11 happened, you are seeing through a filter of your own prejudice. Why not just assume that as human beings of course they were as outraged as we were? Is it easier for you if you can justify feeling superior?

15. Why weren't people appalled when the White House announced plans |
|
to invade a sovereignty and overthrow its leaders at gunpoint.
Instead the media and presidental groupies were barely able to contain their excitement in the prospect of victory in battle.
Such conflict has always been rife with atrocities and crime against humanity. War crimes usually befall the eventual losers alone.
War IS atrocious.

don't have a problem with that marine. I understand that many/most of you do. My question to you is, have you ever been in a war zone? The insurgent in question was not a prisoner, he was a combatant in a war zone. Was he playing possum or simply unconscious? I don't know and I guess now we'll never know. Whatever the case, he had not been secured. He wasn't bound, had not been searched, etc. Wasn't it just the previous day when a medic was killed or injured in a very similar situation when he went to help a wounded insurgent?
War is ugly and often cruel. Don't expect to engage in it and be able to maintain your smug sense of moral superiority. If you want to point at this incident and blame BushCo for putting our young men in that position where they have to do things like this, then we might be able to find some common ground. But don't blame the marine for making the correct, albeit distasteful, decision under extreme circumstances.
And to compare this incident in which a soldier dispatches an armed insurgent who shortly before was shooting at him and still presented a credible threat to himself and the rest of his unit with the savage murder by slow decapitation of helpless, bound, innocent people who've been captives for days/weeks is just repugnant.
