19. I am not a supporter of Rice but..

..I do find these, especially Oliphant's, to have unnecessary racist overtones.

If anything, what I find most uninteresting about Rice is her lack of personality or conviction, including her seeming lack of ethnic or gender identity. I see her not as identified by race as much by her ambition to get ahead by embodying the values of those who could help her get ahead, which I believe she probably would go about in the same way if she was white. I just don't see how her blackness has much to do with how she goes about her career and the plantation types that Oliphant is referencing has much to do with her experience.

There will be much to criticize when/if Rice assumes her post, but I believe making fun of her race will only produce sympathy for her.

21. What I find most annoying about Rice is..

what the right loves: her poise. Bob Kerrey was right that she was cynically running out the clock with her circular, vapid, endless answers to his questions. However, she answered him with such "poise" that she seemed to be saying something when she was avoiding all questions.

So this "Yes, Chief!! You bet Chief!!" isn't her style at all.

Personally, if I was to mock her, it would be to mock her long winded circular, formal style...

The facts are, she is a well educated, successful woman who made her own way to where she is. She was not born into wealth, she did not get where she is because of some parental political connections.

She may be on the wrong side of politics, but does that fact warrant the personal slurs about her looks, her gender, or her race? I don't believe it does.
