Powell shocked by Nude Back!
www.otterblog.com

Too Much Skin for Pigskin (NFL and FCC Shocked!)(Again)(Burkas For All?)
What ever happened to the idea of less regulation and letting the market decide? Even great one-size-fits-all solutions like those have to be abandoned when the nation is confronted with a problem of this magnitude. This past Monday witnessed the bottom of American culture being broadcast to millions of innocent football fans. That's right ABC disregarded any sense of decency when during the introduction to "Monday Night Football" they showed the back of Nicollette Sheridan and she didn't have clothes on! Don't be alarmed, FCC Chairman Michael Powell is all over it.

From the AP:

"I wonder if Walt Disney would be proud," said Michael Powell, chairman of the Federal Communications Commission. ABC is owned by The Walt Disney Co."

"And the NFL called it "inappropriate and unsuitable for our 'Monday Night Football' audience."

It's a good thing we have moral crusaders like this guarding the airwaves and pointing out what is and is not offensive. We wouldn't want the unblemished mind of 20 and 30-somethings scarred by the horrible images or a woman's bare back. Compound-vomit-inducing-career-ending-fractures like that of Joe Theismann and Napoleon McCallum? Sure. Nude shoulders? We think not!

But what of the future? With the Bush Administration cutting more people than Jack the Ripper will Michael Powell suffer his father's fate and resign his post?

"Powell said he'd be around for "a while yet. I still am having fun. There are still things that are really significantly important to me to complete," he said. "Right now, I just have no plans of going anywhere."

1. Does this mean MNF will stop the boob shots of the cheerleaders?
One can only hope.

6. Disneycorp doesn't give a rats ass
what america thinks. These are the same people that tried to screw over Michael moore, aren't they?
"I wonder if Walt Disney would be proud?"
chances are he would follow in his brother Roy's and Pixar's footsteps and have nothing to do with that company

9. No, actually ol'Walt was quite the Union-buster...
Back in the 60's the animators went on strike for more pay, and what happened? That great string of live-action classics like "Son of Flubber" and "The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes".

5. So the official standard is whether Walt Disney would be proud?
Maybe it's okay, then, as long as it's just a cartoon.

Tune in to MNF, next week, for some crazy hijinks starring Fritz the Cat.

7. I heard a rumor . . .
That practically every performer, actor, host, and everyone else that appears on teevee is nekkid underneath their clothes. I demand to know that the FCC is doing about that, huh?

13. You know you may be on to something. It may well be possible with
a few software manipulations to "strip" all the players in a TV drama and have an X Rated version of the program in your living room. What will Michael Powell do then? Probably ask his buddy Clarence Thomas to join him in a little fun, I suppose.

Who cares what that racist, anti-semitic, orphan-obsessed freak would think.

12. Not as racy as the Swim Suit TV Special.
I thought the bare back commercial was nothing more than a shameless attempt to plug a TV show that is now doing everything it can to be controversial.
