any discussion of the fact the killing happened in a mosque?
I feel foolish even asking this, because it's so obvious that that aspect, that it happened in a freaking mosque, would be troubleseome to the Muslim world (ya think?)

But so far, I haven't heard that aspect of it discussed on TV. Much much more emphasis on reminding us (validly) that not all the details are known, and also patting themselves on the back for concealing the identity of the people involved.

Fair enough to qualify the story that way, due process and all. But as far as the global political fallout, the damage is done, and irreversible, regardless of which Americans, if any, get the blame.

Same with Abu Ghraib. Remember that? TV doesn't.

1. if they were using the mosque as an offensive position
that's too bad. Even muslims understand that, grudgingly. However, shooting an unarmed wounded man -- not so understanding about.

It's a PR nightmare and our loonie commanders there thought for some inexplicable reason that we could mow down fallujah and bury the dead bodies and reporters in an unmarked mass grave after we finished liberating them, and no one would know.

Wooops!

3. Oh, but that's a fine, old religious tradition -- both:
killing enemies in their religious buildings, and
killing enemies in one's own religious buildings.

Just think of it as human sacrifice.

5. I hear you, Cocoa. I really think the next attack on the US will be
a symbolic one where a Christian icon will be targeted, so as to fully engage Bush on his planned Holy War.

Washington Cathedral?

Billy Graham's hometurf?

Robertson's?
