Once you swallow the red pill, it's frightening to contemplate the future.
PNAC; the Carlyle Group; the Florida 2000 coup to seize power; the takeover of our democracy by a cabal of theocrats, oil&energy interests, and the military; 9/11; the Patriot Act; the discarding of the quaint Geneva Conventions; Iraq; the declaration that reality is what they say it is; the 2004 stolen election; the media concluding it was the liberals' immoral values that decided the election; the demand to end exit polling; the Chosen One's declaration of a "mandate"; his purging of those who might disagree with him; his consolidation of power...the similarities to Germany in the early 1930's.

What's coming next? Another attack on U.S. soil early in bush's second term? Then the suspension of the Constitution and the move to a militarized society, as Tommy Franks predicts will happen if such an attack were to occur?

Sometimes it seems like it would be so much easier to take the blue pill the corporate media gives us daily, and believe everything will be just fine (at least until you hear that knock on the door).

In these years of george w. bush, ignorance is certainly the closest thing we have to bliss.

1. I'll second that! Well said.

I believe there will be an "Al-CIA-da" attack early in Bush's 2nd term as well, with the total police state soon to follow as you describe. Throw in the "Christian" dominionists and you have Christo-Fascism as coined by Mark Crispin Miller. How do we stay functional in our day to day lives when you know that at any minute, literally, the whole facade could come crashing down?

The party slogan in Orwell's 1984 is so right-on today: WAR IS PEACE, SLAVERY IS FREEDOM, IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH."

5. Christo-Fascism: that's a great description. The bush cabal is a coalition
of dominionists, oil & energy interests, and the military. When you take a look at who originally financed and/or own the voting machine companies, you find that it's the same interests behind them. What a strange coincidence.

It's almost too much to take

On edit: I think what it has been is a loss of hope. I really thought we could change the world. I don't have that hope anymore.

It will change, and perhaps the pendulum will swing back, but I don't feel like it's anything we can control anymore.

4. I'm reminded of the Steve Earle song, "Conspiracy Theory":
"Go on and tell yourself again there are no secrets
Go on and tell yourself that you don't want to know
It's best that you believe that you don't hear the footsteps
That follow you around no matter where you go
Maybe you were thinkin' that it didn't matter
Maybe you believed nobody else would care
But once you've added every little lie together
You finally find the truth was always waiting there
"

It's really that simple: uncover their lies, and we find the hidden truth. Some call it "conspiracy theory."

Well, we've found enough truth to know these are dark, dark days. I don't blame those who shy from the knowledge.

Thanks for the post, milkyway. Well said.

sisters simply by pass'n the word.

thank GORE he 'invented' the INTERNET

it should make it a little easier during our struggle. remember, we have lived on the brink of total annihilation for over 50 years, a police state is as old as empire ;->

don't get me wrong, i certainly do not discount the foreshadowing you witness for it is certainly something many folks are noticing these days, we just have to be smart about how we go about this.

who is the most dangerous person to the state... the violent extremist or the peacemaker who unifies?

it is obvious that our nation is deeply rooted in Christianity which has a long history of leading the way out of our many struggles over our brief history as a nation also paradoxically been used at the same time to repress many.

MLK's great power comes not only from speaking the TRUTH but also by using a powerful vehicle to deliver that MSG so it sure to get through all our filters.

we need to desperately reach out to our bros and sisters all across america and speak the TRUTH in a way that will reach most americans and if that means using MORALS and RELIGION i say SO BE IT, we'll certainly WIN.

of course we can't expect our 'leaders' to lead but you should certainly expect them to follow, just ask the poll Dr.s ;->

bush could never tolerate sharing the stage with a MLK...

michael moore proved that there is a huge audience for the truth we just need someone not so divisive and commercially connected or we will always look like reTHUG lite, hate sunny-side up.

but, i don't know... who could live up to that standard today

probably just one of us, as usual, who will rise with the tide.

psst... pass the word ;->

8. crisis is opportunity
Milkyway, that's a sobering round-up of red-pill reality that many of us, myself included, find truly disheartening. And, I don't see many rays of hope at the moment, and also am living with more fear now than at any time in my life.

That said, the truth still exists and is worth pursuing. In practical terms, we need to remember that a majority of Americans DID vote for Bush, even if their votes weren't counted. There is power in numbers, and hope in the likelihood that a bigger struggle to expose the truth will now be pursued.

What is the truth that would bring Bush and the neocons down? The biggest is 9/11. There is a growing skepticism about it, and a well-organized truth movement calling for further investigation into what really happened.

Many of us who have taken the red pill already believe the neocons were behind 9/11. There's so much evidence already -- we just need a court of law in one of the blue states to pursue this seriously. A ray of hope is the possibility of Eliot Spitzer (Attorney General of NY) taking this on:

http://www.justicefor911.org/press.php

And, here is a recent article that reminds us that "crisis is opportunity":

http://www.911truth.org/article.php?story=20041108185021341

Keep the faith, and fight the good fight.

9. I was unaware of the 9/11 complaint to Spitzer. What does it mean
that he has accepted it?

As bad as things are, it could be even worse for my family. I live in Manhattan with my wife and two sons, now 14 and 12. Besides Manhattan always being a potential target, now I have to worry about a military draft. No way I'll let them take my kids to be used as cannon fodder for Haliburton.

I feel like we could be caught in the crossfire between bloodthirsty fundie Christians and bloodthirsty fundie Muslims.

13. Spitzer hasn't accepted it yet
to my knowledge. But, if you're familiar with him, he gets things done -- he could be the guy to uncover the truth about 9/11. One can always hope.

I feel for you, living in Manhattan -- especially with your two sons not that far from draft age. You have time for planning some sort of strategy for them.... I can only imagine how you feel, since I don't have children. But, I'm gay and feel like I'm already in their sites... and can relate to your feeling of vulnerability.

I can hardly believe what is becoming of our country. Shameful and scary. Let's keep working for positive change, while at the same time protecting ourselves from this insidious regime.
