Heads up: I'll be on Air America Thursday morning
Hi,
I wanted to let people know that I'll be on Air America's Morning Sedition program tomorrow between 8 and 9 AM, East Coast time. It should be for most of the hour. I just did a preinterview, and I think we'll talk about things like 9/11 insider trading, war games, and current events like the CIA purge and the Condi Rice reassignment to Secretary of State. If anyone has anything they think I should bring up, please let me know.

Also, here's a new article about me in the upcoming issue of Esquire magazine. It's their Best and the Brightest issue, highlighting 30 or so people who did interesting things in the past year.

Paul Thompson: One man can change the world. Or at least much of its what, when, where, and how.

by Doug Cantor
Esquire
December 1, 2004

He never studied, trained, or even had any intention to become an authority on terrorism. But never underestimate the power of one man's curiosity. Holed up every night in front of the computer in his San Francisco home, poring over news on the Internet, Paul Thompson grew increasingly frustrated with how incomplete the story of September 11 was. Armed with only a broadband connection, he started to gather every credible fact he could find online. Then he condensed each point of information and put it in chronological order. His Terror Timeline quickly became a monster of about fifteen hundred items, tracing the last quarter century of terrorist activity, incorporating a detailed trail of intelligence failures, and providing a nearly minute-by-minute account of the day of the attacks.

What had started as Thompson's hobby soon became his obession. Early this year, he quit his job with an environmental protection group, moved halfway around the world to New Zealand, and began dedicating his full attention to a solitary pursuit that paid nothing and seemed unlikely to be seen by more than a handful of people. Finally, he found a small audience through the Center for Cooperative Research, a California-based historical-record-keeping Web site that shared his philosophy of nonpartisanship, information sharing, and reliance on mainstream news sources. The marriage was a fruitful one. People started e-mailing him to point out new information and to make corrections to his data. Open-source historiography had arrived.

The result is that Thompson has assembled by far the most comprehensive and detailed record of September 11 and the events surrounding it ever created.

Thompson may have furthered the cause of journalism to a greater degree than if he worked as a journalist himself. His timeline (cooperativeresearch.org) has become a trusted resource for reporters and researchers, and this fall it was published in book form (The Terror Timeline) by HarperCollins. Still, Thompson continues with his self-imposed labor. "If somebody were to say to me, 'Give me your one paragraph on who did it on 9/11,' I don't feel I could tell you," he says. "And I don't want to stop until I know that answer."

2. You keep going, Paul.
Some will deride you and your findings, but it is dogged determination that will carry the day.

Remember this from the I Ching: "The Superior Man always crosses The Great Water".

The only thing I could have you bring up is why 51% of our voters are so dumb. But good luck.

I have your book and find it a very comprehensive and detailed overview of the events surrounding 9/11.

Kudos to you for your laborious efforts that produced such a detailed text.

Perhaps this is off topic, but I believe the voting irregularies/discrepancies of Election 2004 need to be addressed.

Hopefully, you are following them and can speak to the lack of coverage in MSM.

Again...thanks,

~chiffon

edit: for grammar

8. HI PAUL! My question/suggestion is --->
I'd like to know, for starters:

WHO SENT THE ANTHRAX LETTERS?

and, WHY DOES WASHINGTON HAVE AMNESIA ABOUT THEM?

Thank you!

(Trying to stream that always freezes up my computer... but I will try for your gig. I think this 9/11 story HAS NOT been told.)

11. Bravo, Paul!
I have no suggestions, you know far more of the details of 9/11 than I do. Hell, I'm still in denial, and I go past ground zero every day too.

I'm delighted that you're getting some recognition for all your work. :)

13. Condi failed to foresee the fall of the iron curtain (even though she was
an 'expert'). She failed to act on the memo that said, "Bin Laden determined to attack inside the U.S.". Is there anything SHE has done right?

14. KUDOS, but.....
I don't have a really great feeling about one the Marks. I think its Maron. He seems to be somewhat lukewarm to some issues that liberals hold dear, like the 04 voter fraud. Although today he did say that he has been donating to BBV and referring others to do the same.

On the 9/11 issue, he actually stated on the show last time I was on that he thought Bush knew. He's been the main force getting me on the show a couple times already.

20. This is just beautiful
Paul, I stumbled on your work 2 years ago. I printed out your web pages and pored over them, trying to understand the events of 9/11. About the same time, I discovered DU. (It's been downhill ever since :-))

Anyway, I'm so happy your work is getting the attention it deserves. You are the personification of the old-fashioned, and possibly moribund, "American Dream" (well, except for the "moving to NZ" part).

Thanks for the heads up!

Center for Cooperative Research is where I first became aware of the infamous 9/11 "seven minutes" (although the entire period of inaction was much longer as your site shows) months before it was exposed "Moore" at large. My friends that I told to visit the site thought I was wearing a tin-foil hat, until the very same thing turned up in F9/11.

Look forward to hearing you on the show.

22. "Some people say" bush saw an enactment of first plane hitting the tower
"Some people say" it was a terror-preparation simulation video and that's why he got confused and said he saw the first plane hit.

"Some people say" when bush was briefed on the Aug. 6, 2000, PDB, "Bin Laden determined to strike in U.S.," that bush replied, He has the balls to think he can strike here?! Well, bring it on!!"

Good luck, Paul.

I'd be lying if I said I read it cover to cover, but I don't think it's that type of book. There are too many interesting facts and I'm one of those people who tend to read books from back to front. Anyway, everyone should get a copy and try to get hold of the information inside. it's a remarkable, exhausting work.

I'll certanly tune in tomorrow!

27. You're right
It's not necessarily that kind of book. Someone told me it makes a good bathroom book - good to read in small doses because absorbing it all at once can be too much.

My youngest started it, and never put it down (well rarely) until he read it all.. He's re-reading it now..

The other two were amazed, and are reading it now..

Congrats to you :)

Heard you on the radio this morning. Good stuff! I wish Mark & Marc would have let you talk more and let the loonie callers talk less, but I have that complaint about all radio shows.

I'm sure you're gonna get right on that story about the Moon flying around the roof of the WTC, eh? :P
