Why else is the government so desperate to have these people enlist? If a draft is near, what country or countries are we going to attack next?

Am I reading into this too much or are my concerns justified?

That they are calling back guys who received their (final) discharge papers 10 years or more ago, is as blatant to me, at least, as initiating the draft. If they would do one thing, (which I can not believe to be legal), they clearly are both 1. desperate and 2. not worried about the consequences.

if they fail to appear... I believe the story was on NPR a few days ago.

Note, these are not people who inactivated and were on "inactive reserve." These were guys who had fulfilled their active duty AND research commitments AND received their honorable discharges long ago.... Unbelievable

How can they do that? Unless a draft were already in place, I don't see how the military can do this. These people are being forced to re-join the military against their will, is what it sounds like to me. My own son who is 32 was medically discharged in '98 due to a knee injury. He served six years and one year in the Calif. National Guard. Will they be calling him back, I wonder?

My son went to art school in NZ in 2002, and said it would be difficult to stay unless he was in school. Perhaps that has cahnged. He went to one of the anti-war protests in Aukland and said it was disturbingly more anti US than anti war.
But please keepus updated on what you hear. (he's 20) and a candidate for the draft having gotten a drft card in order to get a student loan.

But..there won't be a draft anytime soon because among other things, there is no money to train draft board members. There may be appropriations made next year but the full board would not be ready until late next year.

Some people call themselves "followers of Jesus" to distinguish themselves from these sorts of "Christians". If you read what Jesus said and did in the Gospels, you might arrive at a much different impression of what he was about than you hear from the fundies. The parable of the Good Samaritan is a fine example (Luke chapter 10:25-37).

You might look for a Quaker group or some liberal Episcopalians (or other liberal mainline denomination churches). Don't let the fundies define Christianity for you or take it away from you.

20. I think 35 is the upper age limit..

and some things that will disqualify you from getting drafted are: physical injury/injuries, mental problems, and MAYBE being a conscientious objector.

There may be other ways where you can get out of being drafted (college deferral isn't one of them anymore. :().
