Oregon prison corruption, murder & coverup, drugs etc
Edited on Wed Nov-17-04 06:47 PM by sheeeeeesh
Michael Francke was the head of the Oregon Corrections Department when he was stabbed to death outside his Salem office on Jan. 17, 1989. A small-time criminal named Frank Gable eventually was arrested and convicted of the killing.

But Kevin Francke said that the week before he died, his brother personally warned the family of a likely threat on his life. According to Kevin Francke, Michael called his sister-in-law, Katie, and said he had discovered a network of corrupt officials within his department.

And, Parker said, she heard McAlister describe Francke’s killing as a botched hit that was “supposed to look like a suicide.”

“He was very angry that it had not been done right. He said they’d (screwed) it up,” Parker said.

The 2nd article says:

For the moment, however, it is enough to ask why the lawyers supposedly defending Gable didn’t pursue this lead.

It’s certainly not because they weren’t aware of it.
Chief defense investigator Tom McCallum remembers having a conversation about the report with Gable’s head lawyer, Robert Abel. As McCallum recalls, Abel wasn’t interested in following up on it.

Without a shred of physical evidence connecting Gable to the crime, the state’s case against him consisted entirely of statements from a string of jailbirds, willing, apparently, to say anything to get rid of charges hanging over their heads.

Several since have recanted, explaining that they were only saying what state police investigators wanted them to.

They said they found a hair on top of the body? but it
was never DNA tested. About 2-3 months ago, the paper
said it was being tested but I have not heard any results
and surely it would be finished by now?

Unfortunately, the governor at the time was Democrat
Goldschmidt who *did* do his best to pooh-pooh any
problems within The System of Government.

This entire scene has worked out so well (so far)
for those involved. How long can it continue to
last? I wonder how many people are looking for
countries that do not extradite to the US.

Edit to correct governor's name. It was
Goldschmidt. Who recently was nailed (but
not jailed) for having sex with a 15 yr old
way back when.

2. Damn, that's one I haven't heard in a long time.
So where did all the corruption go? Through the tin-foil hats?

If there had been, the rethugs would have whip Kitzhaber with it bad time. They didn't because it wasn't anything there.

3.  Error, it was Goldschmidt, not Kitzhaber.

Where did the corruption go? Beats me. I assume
back underground.

And the Rethugs would have had to been able to get
their hands on the dirt. They couldn't do so.

This is the prison good ol' boy network, not
the politcal one.

The DNA will tell the tale.

While driving home, I heard a snippet on the
radio that certain people are feeling very
uncomfortable right now. Guess they are
picturing how nice they will look in prison blues.

And what's with people (criminals with charges
hanging over their heads) telling the police what
they wanted to hear and now they are saying they
lied.

This whole thing smells very very bad.
