where he made a statement and the entire press room broke out in laughter? Ari wasn't trying to be funny, unfortunately.

Does anyone recall what the topic was? Its always fun to think back at those types of occurrences and frame it in today's reality.

2. Not buying allies

Wasn't it the one where he said that the US doesn't "buy" allies when talking about the coalition of the willing, ie some 3rd world country who's defence department consists of 3 guys with 100 year old muskets and no ammo? And the fact that Congress just approved XXX millions of dollars in aid or grants or some such thing....and he got laughed off as he left the room???

Ari Fleischer, White House spokesman, was laughed out of the daily briefing on Feb 25th. Members of the foreign press asked about US vote buying for its resolution before the UN Security Council on Iraq. Ari reacted in a offended manner, eliciting loud laughter from the entire press corps. Ari gets a somewhat miffed look on his face and makes a quick exit to continuing laughter and the press making snide remarks amongst themselves.
