Bev Harris Needs To Be Heard...

How can we get her to appear on national TV (that is, of course, if she wants to take this step)?

It was suggested she'd be a good guest on Jon Stewart & Oberman. I'd also suggest Charlie Rose.

Any ideas?

4. Oprah would be the best bet
I have never seen her show, but know that she is hugely popular, and well respected.....doubt it could happen for months however..... she seems politically nervous.

20. Well, she has reason to be
Got herself in big trouble about 10 years ago with cattle farmers in Texas. They sued her, there was a trial and there was huge publicity. It was very traumatic for her.

Doesn't surprise me that she's a little more circumspect these days.

25. she did a show on get out the vote before the election
Not openly politically slanted, but...all the stars that were on were wanting to take their country back. and sad they had not participated before now. (Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz).
Oprah also got several people who had NEVER voted to register. Explained to one black woman who had never voted why it important for her as a black person to vote, and what people who had gone before her had done and given up to secure her, anonymous audience member, the RIGHT to vote.

I think Bev Harris would be perfect on that show.

33. Please everyone contact Oprah. Go to www.oprah.com and
find the area where you can email suggestions for a show topic.

A few days ago I did this. I asked her to do a follow up show about voting and the voting fraud and suppression that occurred on Nov 2.
She aired a great show in October urging everyone to get out and vote. She interviewed several women, some middle aged that had never voted in their lifetime, and she made them pledge to vote. She said at one point she was very concerned about the direction our country was going in (i.e. she wanted Bush out), although the show was nonpartisan. She also had several celebrities on as well that were voting for the first time or urging others to get out and vote. It was a very inspiring show.

I feel Oprah would be a great way to get the voting fraud info out. She owns her own company so she's not under pressure from higher ups, her viewers are in the millions and she's a very ethical person who I feel would do the right thing.

Let's get to work!

69. Oprah has nothing to gain, and lots to lose by getting "political"
If she had really cared about this issue, she would not have waited until the week before the election (when it was too late to even register in most states).

Oprah's success has been built on NON-controversy..that's why she was so flabbergasted over the Texas Beef Council lawsuit..

Oprah has the large platform, but er audience is not geared towards political stuff. She will have candidates on from time to time, but it's for the "Tell us how you met ".."Let's see pictures of your pets" sort of stuff..

She is smart enough to NOT want to alienate 50% of her audience..The "news" departments seem to be more than ready to align themselves with the rightwingers, but Oprah will not..

16. How about the opposition sites?
In reading her posted info, seems to me Bev Harris can hold her own with anyone who might want to ask her any questions or challenge her on what she is doing. That said, I would love to see her appear on Fox News because she needs to be heard by their listeners, whether they go nuts about it or actually learn something! I don't think they have anyone who could confuse her or shut her down.

23. It's gotta be Oprah...
Three reasons...

Oprah speaks to the masses....and they trust her. She's not on PBS or Comedy Central...and such. She is totally mainstream and believable to her audience.

Oprah is powerful enough to pull this off...she can make this happen and is strong enough to deal with any backlash. Her people (audience) will stand up for her. You don't mess with Oprah...they WILL get up in arms about it.

This is an Oprah story...Bev is a woman (a grandmother?) fighting a huge uphill battle for the rights of everyone. It also involves disenfranchisement of minority voters. I think it would be hard for Oprah to ignore it. And Oprah could get her base motivated to do something.

57. FYI: she has been on national TV before
Bev has been on Lou Dobbs and "The A List" (Howard Dean was guest hosting and many of you have heard about Bev teaching Dean how to 'hack' a vote in 90 seconds. this is where that happened.)

she's also had a LONG feature article in Vanity Fair. (and, though I don't think it happened, was in touch with 60 Minutes)

regarding Oprah, there was a HUGE effort here at DU prior to the election to get info out to her AND to ask her to have Bev as a guest.

as far as i know, we heard nothing from that effort.
