Want to live in a Christian Nation?
Move to England (or Canada, or Australia, or the Bahamas, or New Zealand, or Bermuda -- any Commonwealth country). What the hell am I talking about? Look at the coinage and banknotes in any of these countries. Whose picture do you see? Queen Elizabeth II, because she's the Head of State in all the Commonwealth countries. She also happens to be the head of the Church of England (the Anglicans), which is the official state religion.

One of the reasons the colonists of British North America demanded independence was the lengthy history of religious intolerance and persecution in Britain (which was also the reason many of the Colonists were in the Colonies, for their relative religious liberty). The First Amendment to the Constitution was set in place largely to avoid the religious entanglements of the State in religious matters, that is, to establish a secular government concerned solely with the operation of domestic and international affairs without regard to individual religious belief.

As it stands now, however precariously at the moment, Americans are free to worship as they see fit in a secular society. Supplant it with a "Christian Nation," and you'll be undermining the very essence of America's raison d'etre. The next issue after the establishment of such a religious state will be the issue of ORTHODOXY. This is almost certainly to be followed by the sorts of purges and inquisitions as have not been seen in the West for centuries.

So you want to live in a Christian Nation? Move to one. There are plenty to choose from. Leave our Great Experiment unsullied by your dangerous ambitions.

1. I've made the assumption that you were addressing this to..
fundies who think this was a 'Christian' nation, and wish to return to 'the good old days.'

I wish they would move....

I'm kind of with the idea that Canada should annex the blue states. They may technically have a queen, but they sure seem to be way ahead of us socially.

3. Shhhh... a little Canadian secret:
They don't want us. Canada jealously guards their national identity, one which is threatened enough by American cultural imperialism like cheesy network sitcoms and empty pop music. Canadian broadcasters are required by law to maintain a certain level of Canadian content in their playlists. Spend a month in Canada and you'll start to understand what I mean.

The population of California alone rivals that of all of Canada, not to mention that of New York, New Jersey, Illinois, Pennsylvania, et al. If they were to annex the blue states, then what would be Canadian?

6. Partial birth abortion doesn't exist
As a medical entity. It's a term that was created by right-wingers to horrify people like you who think that this procedure is performed at a whim. It's not -- it's used in circumstances where the mother's health is at risk or where the fetus is deformed in some way and will die within minutes of birth.

9. And two men or two women getting married
Edited on Wed Nov-17-04 11:51 PM by Kool Kitty
affects you HOW, exactly? Why is it not the same as hetero marriage? Because they can't or don't conceive children? My husband is sterile, my son is from my first marriage. Because my present husband and I have no children together, is that not a marriage? (I'm out on a limb here, because you didn't give a reason why you feel it's not a real marriage. I just went on this assumption because a lot of conservatives use the reason I cited as their rationale for opposing gay marriage.)

And there is no such thing as Partial Birth Abortion.

Do you have a problem with killing Iraqi children? I'm sure we've bombed the life out of some pregnant Iraqi women. Do you have a problem with that? Or destroying a country because that great man of faith, GWBush, has lied us into a killing war? Is that stuff okay?

2. Er...all those nations listed
are free to worship, or not worship, as they choose. None of us have any problem with religion for that matter.

Why blame us for your problem??

5. I see you're from Canada.
I live here too, thank God! No, I don't want them coming here; it's just a little rhetorical point.
