Show your support for Arlen Specter
No, I'm not a Freeper troll. Arlen is a favorite politician of mine who happens to be a Republican. Over the past few weeks I've seen the right relentlessly attack him for his left-ish views, and even organize a prayer to stop him.

List of offices to write to him and e-mail:

Flame me if you want. I don't care. All I know is when a man stands up for his convictions against people like that on the right and especially the religious right, we've got to stand behind him.

1. He has already taken it back
His nomination was in question so he took it all back and said he wouldn't stop anti abortion supreme court justices.

So why again should I support him?

16. Well
Randi mentioned it today, I can't find a link. I'll probably be able to find something tomorrow.

SORRY hate saying things and not being able to back them up..

7. Yes, but does he really mean it?
It's easier to ask for forgiveness later than permission now, IMHO.

3. He was the only Republican I voted for this year.
I wanted to try to encourage the "maintenance" of more moderate Republicans. I feel sorry for him right now. I don't think he has a chance against the fundie wolf pack.

5. Well, hasn't he just stated that he won't block anti-abortion
nominees to the Court? In other words, he was gotten to by the WH...

He'll probably be heading the Judiciary Committee as a "image" of moderation, yet will let the juggernaut roll on. In other words, he's caving on any principles he's had...

6. I have no problem with him
He seems like an old time republican, who was all about fiscal conservation. It is sad that his party has become the hate filled sespool that it has transformed in to. Hell, just for purposes of keeping the seniority system we should back Arlen.

9. Only if he refutes his "Magic Bullet" theory.
Otherwise AFAIC he's still covering up the JFK assasination conspiracy.

12.  Specter -the only republican that I like
I gotta give it to Arlen,he really did stand up for his
convictions! Wow! I thought he backed Bush 100 percent but it
is good that he stood up on this important issue. I am
pro-choice and glad to see that Arlen is also!

14. I can't forgive him for Anita Hill...
his attempts to depict her as a liar and a perjuror were typical repuke, and he'll never get my support anytime for anything.

15. I don't like him by virtue of him being a Repuke.
But...he would be better than some other repuke. At least he supports the Constitution.

17. Arlen Specter gave us Clarence Thomas.
He is the most opportunistic, lying, politician I have ever known. I am a sixty-year-old life-long Pennsylvanian.

sense. I just mentioned Specter on another thread. It is really disturbing to me to hear all the news about how the religious fanatics are bombarding his office and demanding that he conform to their wishes. Is is really a matter of supporting Arlen Specter to let your views be known. One of the reasons these religious fundamentalists have more power than they should have is because they speak out. Can't people make their views known regardless of party affiliation? Why do democrats feel like they can't speak up? Why aren't people speaking up to let the members of the Senate Judiciary Committee know that the voice of the religious fundamentalists isn't the only voice - and not even the majority voice when it comes to the abortion issue. I think we should all be expressing our views about the Arlen Specter situation, not because of party affiliation (and not necessarily as "support" for Specter) but because we are citizens of this country and we have a right to be heard.

19. What a pity that we have sunk to this
Yes, of course you are right. He is better than the average wingnut. But look how low we have sunk that we feel we must support this creep. It makes me want to sleep for a very long time.
