Santorum told kids ineligible for school
<snip>
U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum said last night that he and his wife, Karen, are withdrawing their five school-age children from the Western Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School.

Santorum has come under criticism from officials in Penn Hills, where he owns a house, who say the school district should not have to foot the $38,000 annual bill to educate his children.

The Santorums do not live in the district full time and spend most of their time in Leesburg, Va., outside Washington, D.C.

"The school district has just informed us that after reviewing our situation, only children who live in a community on a full-time basis are eligible to be educated in a public cyber charter school program," Santorum said.

I wonder if we can make him re-pay the Penn Hills school district. What a POS he is. You mean to tell me there are no good private, public, or cyber schools in the posh VA suburbs where he lives?

2. Here's another interesting tidbit about their house in PA:
It has two bedrooms. They have SIX kids, and own a two-bedroom home! Is anyone supposed to believe that they actually live there? And furthermore, there are two other adults, who may or may not be related to the Santorums, who list that home as THEIR residence! Unbelievable.

The ironic part about all of this is that Santorum originally ran for US Congress by painting the Dem incumbent as someone who was too elite to actually live in PA. He beat somebody by accusing him of doing exactly what Little Ricky is now doing!!! Are the PA Dems paying attention to this?????? 2006 is coming up quick!

3. Christian Morals Indeed
santorum, like a cockroach, is only acting because the light is on him. Homeschooling is necessary so fine americans like santorum can properly indoctrinate their fascist offspring. Surely don't want to expose them to evolution or science or children of color.

4. Here's another thing.
The Santorums are devout Catholics (think Opus Dei, although I do not know if Santorum is actually a member). Can anyone tell me that there are NO parochial schools in the VA suburbs??? None at all?? Answer: They would have to pay tuition there, so of course they won't enroll their kids. If they can't do it off the government teat, they won't do it.

5. If I lived in Pennsylvania (hint, hint)
I'd start a case file on santorum right now to ensure he departs the senate in two years. Dems in PA have to get a candidate very soon. Good luck. I live in Mississippi and I'd rather have Trent Lott as a Senator than santorum.

6. Hell yes there are!
Of course you knew that, but . . .

I don't know much about Leesburg, but I can tell you that there are at least three Catholic high schools in NoVA, and and endless array of primary and middle schools.

But they are not cheap. But gee Ricky should easily be able to afford them ... some thing's not right with this sit.

wife sued a chiropracter and got an award for more than $400,000 for "pain and suffering". She wasn't disabled.

But he would deny that type of award for others.

Hypocrite, thy name is Santorum!

7. I'm not sure they're avoiding evolution
Not to quibble, but throw-back Catholics (my aunt is one) don't really have a problem with evolution, since they're not Bible literalists. They have a problem with conducting the Mass in English and a whole lot of other procedural issues, but I think they're okay with fossils, etc.

I'm assuming Santorum is one of these Latin-Mass Vatican-II-haters like my aunt.

It's a CYBERschool..Mrs Santorum, no doubt has the nanny oversee the little darlin's while they sit at their keyboards at home..

It's just a way to not have to have them rub shoulders with the local "rif-raff"

One would think that such devout Catholics would INSIST on sending their kids to Parochial schools...oh wait... that wyoud COST them money :puke:

9. My point exactly.
They'd have to actually pay for their children's schooling. So of course they aren't going to do that. A real example of Republican independence, standing on their own two feet, personal responsibility in action. :puke: indeed.

10. I probably shouldn't have thrown Opus Dei in so casually.
I don't know if the Santorums are THAT nutty, but they are extremely devout Catholics.

15. I'd bet big bucks he IS Opus Dei
My cousin (son of the crazy aunt) is Opus Dei. They are particularly big on recruiting young men who look to be headed for positions of power.

17. yes, that's way too freaky for thoughtful liberal catholics ...
you can be devout Catholic without joining all the niches that are potentially disruptive. The productive organizations are Catholic Worker and Pax Christi. No secret codes etc. just working together with other people to help promote Peace and charity to the poor and disenfranchised of this world.

13. Bunny, the Post Gazette gave this story A LOT of coverage.
I was really proud of them. They stayed on that snake in the grass until he cried "uncle." Everyone should e-mail them and congratulate them, don'tchathink? Also, the Penn Hills School Board took a stand. Good for them!

I want Santorum out of office so bad. He is such an embarrassment to this state.

How have you been? :hi:

And you are right - the PG really did hammer this story. I'll send them a congrats e-mail, because they really made Ricky say uncle. The Penn Hills school board did a nice job, too, of not backing down.

I'm encouraged!
