They snake a tube through the leg artery up to the uterus, then they inject tiny particles which clog the small arteries that are feeding blood to the fibroid tumors, which shrivel and die. There's no surgery except for the incision for the tube, but it's supposed to be very painful with terrible cramping etc. You stay in the hospital overnight. It's not recommended if you want to preserve your fertility, as there's a chance the particles could cut off blood to the ovaries as well.
