There's an Iraqi election coming up in January, and Bush wants a pro-American to win. But any prospect of that will dim considerably if Bush lets that Marine get away with killing a defenseless Iraqi.
Bush either has to burn the Marines or burn Iyad Allawi. My guess is that he'll burn the Marines. Negroponte has already hinted at that outcome. Bush figures he can always get more Marines, there's plenty where that one came from. He can't risk blowing a chance at the appearance of legitimacy.
Stay tuned. Betcha Bush won't "support our troops."
