Call me racist, or bigoted, or prejudiced, if you want
but as I was watching the ceremony unveiling the Clinton library, and as I noticed that three out of four presidents spoke with a southern and Texan accents, it was clear to me that no northern - of any party - will be elected president. That the political power has shifted to the southern and southwestern regions (but not the economic and cultural ones). Not unless something major happens, like some kind of a natural disaster that sends people northward.

14. That, perhaps, we are doomed if we continue to select our candidates
from the sane regions. That if we are going to win Ohio, or Virginia, or New Mexico - which I still don't get how it ended up red - or Colorado, that perhaps we will need a candidate who sounds at least like Willie Nelson.

24. Interesting map from AP/USA Today
You know, the ones who gave WetDiaper a 13% "lead" in order to keep Iraq off the front pages? Do I think it's even remotely accurate? Uh, no. I do agree, though, that MA is a "sane" region.

4. Bush's is fake
Not really from Texas...but from Connecticut.

If you heard him speak early on as governor of Texas and before then, the twang was non-existent.

He didn't even have a trace of the bullshit-fake Texas accent he has now.

Bush didn't even buy that ranch of his until he ran for President the first time. He didn't live on a ranch and it is all show and nothing else.

25. I don't get this Rose
I was born in Brooklyn. Moved to Staten Island when I was two and moved to Texas when I was 21. I've been in Texas for 25 years now.

So in your opinion, I am not a Texan?

I sure feel like a Texan. I sure don't feel like a New Yorker. I haven't been there in 20 years.

How about jazz, started in New Orleans, or etouffe?
I used to go to a country music bar in Greenwich Village. Buddy Holly, Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis?

You've got to be less provincial.

Did y'all see Big Dog being interviewed by Peter Jennings tonight?

I loved it! He rather chewed Peter's ass up over the way Ken Starr was forever being highlighted on ABC's News! He didn't pull any punches and he didn't back down! Would love to have that interview on tape for posterity!

9. The Bushmen
are from Connecticut, actually. Bush, Jr. likes to dress up and play cowboy and twang it up a little in speeches in the Midwest and Southeast, but he's a Ivy League New Englander, the same thing he painted Kerry as to help him lose. Ironic.

southerners. Maybe we could get Kerry to move to Jawja for a few weeks so he can run again with a southern twang! Or Hilary!

17. Blame the DLC
If they run a Yankee or midwesterner, they hamstring him.

They are the mostly southern, all conservative DINOs at the center of party politics who got into power by promising to counter the Nixonian southern strategy.

They got lucky with Clinton, but only because he was charismatic and capable, two qualities Bush I lacked.

They should have mopped the floor with Bush the Stupid in both elections. They should have been able to take Congress back. Instead, they've ignored the warnings on voter fraud and fooled themselves that the party isn't far right enough.

In their own way, they're every bit as delusional as the Bush team.

29. I think that it is even sadder with the GOP
That party used to be the place for the "country club" people from the East and West coasts. Yes, the party of Rockefeller and of Javitz, of Prescott Bush and even Goldwater who, BTW, was a pro-choice.

A party that really believed in small government and in civil liberties that would be horrified at the invasion of privacy that cannot be justified by "national security" concerns.

And it was taken over by southerners like Gringich, and Trent Lott and DeLay - all small minded people who would not know how to behave like gentlemen if they had to save their lives.
