Its the hypocrisy that gets me. Well, the hypocrisy and the canine-like obedience.
How can a group of people sanctify themselves as the protectors of life while giving a cheering thumbs up to a man who is responsible for the deaths of tens of thousands?
???????
A little example:
I have to pass by a big Baptist church on my way out and back in each day on a very busy road. They have one of those blank-slate type signs that is highlighted from behind - like a marquee, and they post a different message regularly. About two months before the election, the messages turned political.
Among the thinly-veiled "commandments" were reminders "not to vote with your pocketbook, but with your faith." Another, was one in a series announcing that night's "focus on the election" seminar. This particular message read, "...Issues: sanctity of marriage, fighting terrorism." All the messages paralleled the bush talking points at the time.
(Why do they get to put up signs to spread their ideology, but we don't?)
Anyway, the one that really got me was the big message that went up about a week before the election and stayed there: "If the good fail to vote, the wicked will be in power." If that's not the exact quote, then its pretty damned close. "Wicked" - really. I wonder to whom they were referring? Who the hell did they consider "wicked?"
It wasn't bush.
They were calling Kerry "wicked."
A man who fought for his country, has served his country for years, and, ran a far more honest campaign than "the one," is wicked - especially when compared to an arrogant, mass murdering, lying thief.
It was a stark message, and caught my eye every time I drove by.
I wanted to stop in to hear how "wicked" Kerry is, but I never did.
Yet the sign was there, beaming as if from God to the faithful passers by - who dutifully do as they are told, cheering wildly at anyone with a flag and/or Bible.
They're not called the flock for nothing.
And I don't know where the hell they get the idea they're making Jesus proud.
And today, on that marquee? - "Even the bad can be saved"
To those who composed that sign, and those who claim to be Christian and voted for bush, and want to save me - I say stay the fuck away from me.
I say, save yourself, hypocrite.
