Howard Stern on Letterman, speaking the truth
He laid it all on the line. He spoke of how the theocrats are out of control. He said them and the theocrats have the media running scared.

Howard Stern, an unlikely hero. But he did have to promote Sirius radio, but his message for America was loud and clear. Wake up!!!

4. No Dave was on top of things...
He brought up Clear Channel owning around 1000 stations and how 3 media giants own around 70% of radio in the US...he was asking tougher questions than some of the whores at his own network would...

Howard was the only guest, other than the music.

3. Just out of curiosity, what is general take here on him?
Some may say he demeans women, others may say he is merely filling a market for which there is a demand, or that he is simply and entertainer.

I like his show mostly, he has some interesting interviews on there. I try not to mix politics and entertainment too much, kind of ruins things :)

8. Some love him, Some hate him
There's no real consensus here about the guy.

I love his show, but I can understand why some people find him obnoxious, vulgar, crass, etc.

Whatever you think of him personally though, the guy's on the forefront of Free Speech issues, and for that, he deserves our support.

24. He reminds me of
every bore who ever made a pass at me. I actually had a nitwit once (actually at least two of them) who walked up to me and introduced himself and told me how great he was bed, all the while sticking out his chest, drooling, and looking like a total idiot. Stern, in fact, leaves me just as cold with his adolescent lascivious behavior. I defend his right to do what he does and believe he has every right to "entertain" folks who like that sort of stuff. As on-target as he can be about bush*, I have the distinct impression that being who he is, he turns more people off than he converts. As a spokesperson for democratic values - we could do a lot better.

10. I don't like Howard Stern...
..but I'd defend his right to be on the air on an "adult" program. (and by that I mean a program meant for adults).

Don't like him? Change the channel.

Since I have Sirius I'll always have that option.

15. I love him - warts and all
Sure, there are times when I turn his show off but I've been listening to him long enough to know that he's his own best foil. He knows it too. To me, Howard Stern is hilarious but he's not for everyone.

22. i don't care for howard stern
however, i do believe in his right to free speech & feel he's been unfairly targeted by the neocons at the fcc.

i'm ok to live & let live as long as i'm not forced to watch/listen to a show i find offensive in any way, shape, or form.

27. Stern demeaning women-- I have seen his shows.
I am a woman and the women he demeans deserve it for the most part.
I dont know where he gets all these stupid women that are not the norm in intelligence. Lord, I hope the majority are better off than the women on his show. It has been a long time since I have seen his show. He may have changed his style

9. It's no different from Larry Flynt
...he was a hero for satirists and political speech. Sometimes it just takes people who push the limits of the Bill of Rights that make it stronger.

12. The foes of our rights now have the money and the political
clout to punish those who do push the limits. I wonder when they will start throwing the Flynt's and the Sterns in prison?

13. Stern qoutes from tonight
I'm on the west coast and cant wait for the show.

Stern on Letterman

: Howard Stern mentions my little scoop on the FCC on Letterman's show tonight: "An ex-TV Guide writer went and researched. Three people complained. Three people."

Damn. Wish I'd recorded that.

: It's a serious talk and a good talk. Howard discusses the problem of the FCC and free speech and Clear Channel and creativity. Random quotes:

"This is my way of checkmating the United States government," he says.

"This guy Michael Powell... he's telling us what we can hear," he says. Later: "How can we have a democracy how can we have an open exchange of ideas?"

"My fellow broadcasters are not standing up for me."

"In five years, satellite radio will be dominant in radio broadcasting."

On getting satellite radio: "I believe it is a political movement."

14. I can take or leave Howard...
...but I'll defend his right to put on the kind of program he chooses to.

I'm with a lot of you - don't like Howard (or any other shows of his type)? CHANGE THE FREAKING STATION - BETTER YET, TURN OFF THE RADIO!!!

Don't back down Howard!! TELL THE TRUTH!! Don't let the Federalist "Christian" Censors (stole that from a Libertarian friend of mine) sanitize radio!!!

Spoke out against Michael Powell and the FCC, ClearChannel, media consolidation, the Bushies and the theocrats. Good stuff! And Dave asked great questions and let Howard talk - thanks Dave!!

20. accept any ally
Howard's no t my taste. But I'm reminded of Churchill's quip when asked about the alliance with Stalin: If the devil declared war on Hitler, I'd put in a good word for him in the House of Commons (paraphrase)
