THREE CHEERS (or more) for President Bill Clinton!!!!!
Edited on Fri Nov-19-04 03:52 AM by shance
Im sure that felt good for President Clinton to express what he has been feeling for so long.

Shame on a shallow, smug commentary from Peter Jennings. I am not too surprised of the typically cheap pathetic journalism and such disrespect for a former president, I guess I would have expected it from someone else.

President Clinton, you are a true leader. You always have been. Despite the never ending interrogation, accusations, and totally unjustified insane hatred thrown at you, you still managed to achieve so much.

I will never understand exactly why they were filled with such unjustified contempt, except to say, you have what they dont. Class.

You have cared more about this country and being a good leader than almost anyone I have ever seen. And of course, no body died when you made what was simply a very human choice. George Bush and his Administration now have over a hundred thousand deaths on their hands and on their watch.

They cant hold a candle to you on a morality scale in any realm.

Yes. More than one hundred thousand innocent individuals (both Iraqis and our men and women)in George Bush's and Dick Cheneys name.

Our environment, our air, water and land are essentially being toxified beyond recognition, sold to the highest bidder and pillaged by this Administration.

While you brought the awkward, difficult issue of being gay "out of the closet", you nevertheless brought it out, and as a result legitimized millions of Americans who had lived their lives in secret. This Administration now has as one of their main objectives is to throw gays back in to the secret, illegitimate world and slam the door of the closet by instigating a Constitutional amendment discriminating against Americans who just happen to love someone of the same sex and want that love to be recognized like every other straight American.

This Administration is invading Americans privacy in every single capacity, allowing the placement of tracking chips in passports, allowing us to be RFID chipped in every conceivable way (clothes, pill bottles you name it), and of course due to the Patriot Act, this Administration, intelligence and Homeland Security, now have the right to invade all our financial information, monitor our phone calls, monitor our emails and computer usage, and they have the right TO ENTER OUR HOMES WITHOUT US KNOWING.

This Administration wants of course to illegalize abortion and force women to have unwanted children, but they dont want to take care of those unwanted children, they just want to protect the fetus.

I could of course go on. George Bush and his Administration have declared war on everything that is good, everything that is fair, and everything that is just. This Administration has declared war on you because you were good and created a more positive, healthy America.

I hope it felt wonderful to speak your truth tonight. It felt wonderful to hear that you did it!! God knows Peter Jennings and every other journalist who was unjust to you and your Administration deserves it.

1. But but, but, He likes both Bush and Kerry!
He was a great Prez but he has lost me now. And I don't give a flying F-Ck about Bill and Monica. If he had kept it zipped they wouldn't have talked about it. This was as dumb as Gary Hart's follow me. Jesus, the guy knew they were looking for something. The media and Starr were atroucious and this wasn't an impeachable offense IMHO but please. Get over yourself. And telling us not to whine earlier! GAG. Bye Bill. I don't like you anymore. Maybe someday but not now! And Shadup about Monica. No one cares. The country is in imminent dangerand I don't care that the media was unfair in 1998. It is more unfair about important things like war now!

2. I agree w/shance. And God Bless Bill Clinton for standing up to Jennings!

Bill Clinton showed both class AND balls in that interview.

It's about time we all take heed and start standing up for ourselves. Being liberal or progressive does NOT mean you have to be a kicking bag.

4. Thanks Demo. I'd only add its time we stand up for good leaders as well.
They need our help and support. Without it, they are simply outnumbered, or atleast as far as the media would like to portray and spin it.

I think we must support good leaders and good action all the way around.

Morality and ethical acts are not politically discrimnitory, although it would certainly seem that they were these days*

The good news is we (as in good people*) are in the majority.

However right now when we have an Administration and others in power who are assaulting and attacking those doing the right thing, its really important we pay tribute when people are courageous and speak the truth.

:)

3. Did Jennings say to Prez Clinton...
Some people say that George Bush has more intellect than you. That's the statement Ted Koppel asked John Kerry. I fell off my chair when stupid Ted made by statement to Kerry...with a smile, Kerry said, 'more power to him.' But actually, Koppel needed a punch to knock his fake teeth off.

5. President Bill was and is Great!
I have to agree. Bill Clinton was a GREAT President. I wish we had him now. It seems to me he is also a great guy as well as a highly skilled leader. In point of fact Bill Clinton knew, perhaps better than anybody ever has, how to be President of the United States, and it showed. Although I believe term limits are wise, Bill Clinton is the best argument I can think of against them. I would vote for him in a BLUE New York minute. Flame me if you want. I really couldn't care less. Bill gets my vote!

6. He measured his progress
in concrete terms: how many more people had jobs, how many more people had health care, how many less people lived in poverty, how many less people lived in ignorance ... THESE were HIS values.

Too bad he was a mere human and couldn't keep it zipped ... by no means the first denizen of Washington to fall to that temptation. Just ask Newt Gingrich.

When Bill Clinton was President, this country was brimming with the bright promise of the possible. Today, this country labors under the grey burden of the futile. Which would you prefer?

I was embarassed to have to explain to my kids about Monica. But explaining Abu Ghraib was far, far more humiliating. Bill's was a venal sin. George's is mortal.

13. Clinton/Jennings Exchange - San Francisco Chronicle
I just found this < http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/news/archive/2004/11/19/national1855EST0672.DTL >. Jennings asked for it, and Bill let him have it - with both barrels! Go, Bill! You are the man! We love ya!

9. Loved it!
He was mad and good for him. He dressed down Jenning pretty well and it was a joy to see. Isn't the media ever going to be held to account for their behavior during the Clinton years?

Would Jennings ever have talked to bush like that - never!

10. Randi Rhodes just played the Peter Jennings interview.

Checkmate Bill Clinton.

You make Americans proud.

If Peter Jennings and those in the media attempt to use American citizens to pawn off their contempt and disdain, you know the truth. The majority of Americans love you, respect you and know you are an amazing leader.

11. Agreed, well said!
President Clinton told the stark truth! The world, indeed, was appalled at what was done to him at that time. The standing ovation at the UN was meant to send a strong message to a country growing ever more out of control.

Thank you, President Clinton, for speaking the truth to Peter Jennings and I only hope the slimy worm slithered away after the interview.

12. As I said before, Clinton fills me with utter ambivalence
When he is speaking philosophically and rhetorically about politics, his brilliance and charisma shines through. His philosophical approach to politics are intelligent and thoughtful. He is a politician I can respect.

On the other hand, his actually practical stances and policies were often things I disagreed with. He draws the line of necessary compromise much further to the right that I am capable of doing while still being able to sleep well at night. While in office, too often I felt that his angels were shouted down by the demons of his DLC approach to winning in the 90s - and I could never shake the impression that he wanted to co-opt and take over the agenda of republicans too often, and did not want to stand against fundamental republican wrongs often enough.

But Bill Clinton is a brilliant man - just one I find myself frequently disagreeing with. I like Bill Clinton, and then I get amazingly frustrated with him too - which in some weird way is part of the reason I like him.

Bill said, "I'm a little bit red and a little bit blue." I'm all blue, Bill. But I'd still have a beer with ya. ;)
