1. No - he has surrogates (Scowcroft, etc.)who spoke out against the war, etc. |
|
and many other issues. Any time you see Scowcroft or Eagleberger (2 of Poppy's best friends) that is his father speaking. Both of them have written several articles and been on all most the political shows - usually slamming Jr.s policies.

I think he is.
To an impartial audience I beg another tangent: Is there something that Teflon George has done that could be considered a success outside the three Cons often supply -- Afghanistan War, Got elected and got rich.
Really, DUers is their something that you would give him credit for besides dividing the country even more?
War, debt, World hate....are not successes.

For whatever faults GHWB had, he was first and foremost an excellent statesman (if one of the old guard). He was ambassador to China, head of the CIA, and worked extensively building and maintaining diplomacy, especially with western Europe throughout the second half of the Cold War. Compared to his father, W's a political embarassment. He can't wait to go it alone, whereas his father built his support and *usually* pled his case before the international community before commiting soldiers to the ground.

7. I think the only thing he cared about was W getting "re-elected" . . . |
|
...whatever it took to do it.
Ultimately, I don't think he thinks his son has done what he would have done, & I think, until Nov 2, 2004, there was a bit of "I wouldn't have done that", but ultimately, as long as W didn't fuck it up so bad that the repubs didn't get "re-elected" 41 doesn't really care.
Everyone knows 43 isn't running the show. F 9/11 & the Pet Goat clip shows that. I suspect 43 knew something BIG was going on that day (LIHOP/MIHOP -- but details were for those who need to know only, of which 43 wasn't one - at least in it's entirety) & that accounted for the 'deer in the headlights' look on his face. But as long as 43 is still in office, 41 has significant influence on current policy.
Proud of his son? I don't know if he's capable of that kind of emotion. He uses people just like 43 uses people, just like all of Bushco uses people.
