What's the story on NPR, PBS, & NEA? On "Morning Edition," Nina |
|
"Tottenberg said that if the Supreme Court supports Congress, it will, in effect, be the end of the National Public Radio (NPR), National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) &the Public Broadcasting System (PBS). PBS, NPR and the arts are facing major cutbacks in funding." (from a listserve)
What's up? Did anybody hear this? Doesn't surprise me a damned bit, but what's the story?
Anybody have a link?
What does Supreme Court have to do with it?

The same mentality that disdains giving "their" money to help the poor who, as we all know, are poor because they are lazy <sarcas> carries over to this also.
Why should "my tax money" go to the arts when they depict the virgin standing on a pile of dung, and when they (artists) depict the christ at the last supper as a naked woman, and all the apostles as black, except for one--Judas.
Why should NPR have environmentalists on who advocate saving the national wild forests and wildlife in favor of us driving our snowmobiles around the national parks. We pay for the land and we should be able to destroy it as much as we like. All liberals, commie liberals all <sarcasm>
Slowly but surely, we are seeing the demise of liberal thought/representation as I once knew it. Even from within our own party.

3. NPR, PBS and NEA have all been ontheir deathbeds since |
|
Newt Gingerich's contract on america. After that they had to do commercials for support from corporations. They are no longer the life force for our democracy that they were.

to me, NPR & PBS are just like the Democrats in Congress - thoroughly outmaneuvered, and no spines. bending over backwards to please the very people who want to slit their necks & laugh as they bleed out.
things need to get MUCH worse before they'll get better.
handmaids' tale, here we come.

8. NPR gets 2% of its money from the feds. |
|
55% from individual members, and the rest from corporations and foundations. ( http://dir.salon.com/tech/feature/2001/07/02/npr1/index.html) They're no longer whoring for GOP congressional approval. They're whoring for corporate dollars.
