call your senators about the new freedom initative, thx 1138 bill
as the mother of two, i beg of you to call and demand that your senators vote against it.

if you are unaware of this bill, it is new legislation that would make it madatory for children attending public schools to be screened for mental illness and then force them to take meds for it.

parental consent, who does the screening, who pays for it, and what defines mentally ill are all very vague in the bill.

it is a big step into huxley's brave new world, and i ask that you help me in calling our senators and begging them to vote no.

also if your senator happens to be a repug tell them that you are pissed that the government would over step it's bounds like this and you are telling all the people at your shurch about it.

1. Is that really the name of the bill? It is also George Lucas first
feature film with Robert Duvall. Take a look at the plot line. Someone has a sense of sick humor if this is true......

2. My husband calls this the No Child Left Undrugged Bill..
if they really cared about childrens' health, they would provide health insurance for all of them.

Some of us believe in the cognitive-behavioral model of mental illness, and believe medication should be reserved for very selective instances of acute symptoms. And that's for adults.

Keep your Ritalin and antidepressants away from my child! When I worked for Child Protective Services, I saw these drugs administered to children, with pretty much an apparently 100% failure rate. The meds didn't seem to help, and they always caused fairly severe side effects in the long run.

5. Once worked in an institution that had a really intuitive MD on staff.
He took kids off jello, kool-aide and other foods with artificial colorings and flavorings. Amazing how fast behavior problems decreased! And these were kids with profound developmental disabilities, so they made for a pretty good study group in this case.

Stop feeding kids crap, start parenting them and watch how fast they get better. Also, society needs to understand kids. They are not robots. They need to invent and explore. When we (society/culture on a whole) don't accept that, it is us that needs to be modified ;)
