Does anyone else feel
like the wheels are coming off the bus? Increasing debt, more troops (can you say draft?), rising energy, mcjobs, and the dollar being forced lower so China doesn't take all our trade. I don't know about the rest of you, but I feel like I'm on the Titanic try to plug the leaks with bubble gum.

1. Yes!
The Republican sheeple can't see it. I don't know if they are capable of opening their eyes to reality. It's profoundly sad.

4. I agree that they are blind to reality.
I just keep wondering what it's going to take to wake them up. I find myself wondering more these days what the event will be, at what pivotal moment in time will some portion of them have the epiphany of their ignorance.

5. I just had another little hysterical moment myself
This occurred because I was looking at the AP report of the Berkeley study, and was overcome with total frustration and fury at the sheer lack of basic understanding, the lies/misinformation they were feeding to the public about the methodology used in this study and voting fraud issues in general, and the realization that no matter what any of us in academia do to try to make this issue clear the liars and cheaters will always win.

Because the explanation "the Bush campaign GOTV more" will always make more sense to Joe America than complex statistical analysis. Goddamn it.

I can't stand it anymore. I told the fiance on the phone (after ranting at him about this for 15 minutes) that it feels like I'm standing on a beach with 250 million other people watching a tsunami roll in. I'm desperately trying to throw sand onto a little sand bar to try to stop it, nobody is bothering to help me, and some people are coming by and taking sand off my pathetic little pile and throwing it back on the beach.

I am at a total loss at this point. I do not know what to do from here. I am accustomed to presenting logical arguments backed up by facts and receiving these things in return so that both parties can gain a better understanding of the issue at hand. I have absolutely no idea what to do when your opponent lies, presents no facts, and spends all their energy on the *phrasing* rather than the content of an argument in an attempt to manipulate listeners. And 249 million people buy it, hook, line, and sinker.

And yes, I'm including you, faithless Democrats who think we should all just "get over it and move on" - I blame you too for the crushing of the cornerstone of our democracy. Go see your goddamn therapist to "get over your sadness", take your drugs, and bury your head in the sand. What else can we do to convince you? You already made up your mind that fair voting isn't worth fighting for. What WILL be worth fighting for? You better think about that now, and if you can't come up with an answer, maybe you should just sign your name to the Red Party Rolls now so that you can avoid the coming purges right from the beginning.

Where will we "move on" to in 2008 if the voting machines will not LET US elect our "perfect" candidate? Think about it!

6. Not Pretty, But How To Cope...

Remember this: Populations have come through things worse than this.

Bubonic plague, The volcanic burial of Pompeii, Civil War, the Great Depression, two World wars, the flue epidemic, the Rape of Nanking, more...

In every horrible situation, the ones who survive are the ones who simply refuse to give up or give in. Or give out.

I was raised by parents who went through the First World war, the great flu epidemic, the Depression and World War II. I have family letters describing a long ago crossing from Germany to America... in 1560! When the drinking water was black and filled with worms, the hardtack was maggoty and molded, when they were so sick with dysentery they lay on the decks and clung to ropes to keep from being washed overboard as they vomited over the side.

Yes, this is bad. and Yes, Americans will die and wars will decimate countries, terrorist attacks will hit us, but America is not proven in the sunny halcyon days of peace and plenty... she is proven when her people starve, and fight... when her buildings burn and fall... and her people fight... Will the day come when I hold my grandchild's corpse in My arms and watch My next door neighbour shoot himself because he cannot bear another day without food? Possibly... but will I stop fighting? NO!

Human beings are tough. Resilient. STRONG! I'm standing on the FRONT LINES as a Gay Woman, as a sex worker, as a sexual minority, as a disabled person and as an older female. Will I die in some concentration camp? VERY likely YES, but I will fight! I hid for years, I tried to be un-noticed, but dammit if we are to be the new Jews, then SO BE IT! They will NOT herd ME tamely to the showers!

I worked in an Emergency Room. I knew poeple who treated a woman who had LIFTED an automobile that had backed into her child! I knew a man who, in the Navy, dead-lifted a 500 lb bomb that had rolled off a stack onto his crewmate.

And there is one thing which can cheer us all immensely... that when the shit hits the fan... and it WILL... that it will be 100% on BUSH's plate! AND that whatever horror hits US will ALSO hit the red states! The red voters, the soKKKer moms and the Naz-KKKar dads.

While I am spitting blood from broken teeth, My gun-loving neighbour will be right beside me in the camp! When My grandchild dies of some horrible plague, My upstairs neighbour won't be immune EITHER.

We may go down, but we will go down fighting and we won't be alone! THEY will be RIGHT BESIDE US! The repuke will die JUST as surely in a terrorist attack as I will!

So, perhaps I AM damned as a pervert, a dyke, a crip and an "uppity woman" but I say this to the neocons and the Repukes:

I WILL SEE YOU IN HELL!!!

7. Lady Sonelle, I gotta tell ya you'rs are probably the most
interesting posts on this entire website. I sent what you wrote about hoping Cheney dies ("I want him to live") to everybody on my email list. That was great and exactly on point. You're none of those things you describe in this post; you're a very smart woman and a damned good writer. I salute you.

8. I did notice on the CNN.com front page this morning
that there were two stories, side by side:

Greenspan worried about weak dollar

Bush signs bill raising debt ceiling by 800 billion.

Does that say it all?

9. yes, which is why it's time to get off the bus
and later when it goes off the cliff, we'll be the ones saying "I tried to warn them".
