Zell Miller's Parting Quote
Edited on Fri Nov-19-04 07:06 PM by khephra
* Zell Miller, D-Ga.: "I did not come to this Senate expecting events to unfold as they have. I guess I am living proof that politics is not an exact science. ... After all the words of caution that I hope fathers still give their sons, Polonius ended with these words: 'This above all: to thine ownself be true. And it must follow, as the night the day. Thou canst not then be false to any man.' I have always believed that and I have tried to live that."

What a WONDERFUL man! What will we ever do without him?

4. To understand Zell's fervor to being true to his own self it helps to
remember he used to be Lester Maddox's right hand man during the segregationist era.He may have realized that what the Republicans want to do is to bring back that era and Zell suddenly found his roots! Way to go Zell.Be true to thine own dastardly self!Good riddance!

9. Perfect quote for a perfect moron ...
The words he cites are from Hamlet and spoken by Polonius, a dottering old fool who speaks in assinine aphorisms that are nothing to him but , to quote Hamlet himself, "words, words, words."

The irony is delicious.

10. Polonius!? His role model?!
As nearly any undergraduate reader of _Hamlet_ knows, Shakespeare sketched Polonius as a blustery buffoon full of nonsensical commonplaces.

Let me spell it out, Zell: Shakespeare put those words in Polonius' mouth to make him look like a self-centered fool whose soon-to-follow death was almost comical.

Live by those words, ya ninny.

16. "Democratic" Senator from Georgia...
...who declared that the Dems have "left him" and henceforth went to work to elect Bush. Opening speaker at the Republican Convention.

18. "Democrat" Zell Miller endorsed George Bush in early 2004
while there were still nine Democratic candidates for the nomination. Two of these Dems supported the war in Iraq.

Zell's primary reason for backing Bush was... his support for the war in Iraq.

As a Senator, Zell made a name for himself by

1) Whining about a proposed reality TV series to be based on the old "Beverly Hillbillies;" and

2) seeking protection against more stringent fuel economy standards for pickup trucks. After 9/11.

I think that was pretty much it for his legislative record.

Zell also insulted the African American voters in South Carolina by saying, at one point, that he'd bet anyone a "steak dinner" that Al Sharpton would pick up a majority of black votes in the primaries in that state. Of course, Sharpton did very poorly, being that black voters (along with white voters) recognized that he was not qualified to be President. Of course Zell just assumed that black folks would blindly vote for a black man.

Zell is a liar, a traitor, a coward, and a bigot; what's sad is, for a few years as Gov. of GA, he actually managed to cast himself as a reasonably progressive politician. As another has pointed out, he's really just going back to his roots, as a hatchet man for the racist former gov. Lester Maddux.

Now that I've answered your question, here's one from me: Will you sponsor my Canuckian citizenship? pleeeze?

19. Good Riddance to Zell!
I am so glad to see him go. It's scary to think that such a crackpot could actually win a seat in the U.S. Senate.

Although he was good for comedic relief. I don't know which was funnier, him telling Chris Matthews he wishes he could challenge him to a duel, or Zell telling Judy Woodruff the reason he's still a Democrat is so that when he does to the "pearly gates," (his words) he can tell his mother and father he remained a Democrat all his life.
