So what's Bush gonna do about the economy? |
|
Record trade deficits - and if repukes were blasting a problem that Clinton ignored, they had better be livid about *.
Record debt.
Greenspan whining that the end is near.
And with a destroyed dollar, the rich would surely be as destitute as the rest of us, so what's the fucking point to tax cuts?
Cutting social programs will NOT do much good, unless everybody was certain that the recipients of those programs would merely sit back and wait to die.
Other countries are probably thinking of pulling out of their investments in the US, which WOULD be catastrophic and hasten the collapse.
$800 bil won't go forever.
So, what's Bush going to do?

1. You really think any of this bothers him? |
|
Edited on Sat Nov-20-04 09:01 AM by Dem Agog
He's got plenty of money. His whole family has plenty of money. I'm sure they have investments elsewhere completely independent of the value of the dollar. He no longer has to do all that "hard work" to get elected for another term. It's time for Jr. to coast!
Bush does not care about anyone but himself. He's not going to do a damn thing. He's going to destroy the country's economy and he's too stupid and selfish to care.

3. Follow-up question: What will the masses do when collapse occurs? |
|
Remember, many DUers were thinking that there'd be anarchy if Kerry lost. Kerry lost. No anarchy or anything approaching it.

6. I don't think the dissenters are nearly organized enough for anarchy |
|
Ironic as that may seem it's true. Anarchy requires cooperation. Too few people realize how much Bush hates them to actually do anything.
Like everything else over the past five years, I have a feeling the masses will roll over and take it and flounder through the Bush Depression.

What is it? 34%, or something like that, of working middle income class people in this country think that some day they too will be part of of upper 1%.
The myth of "The American Dream," whatever that may be these days, is powerful stuff.

And yes, things will get rough, but in that turd is a diamond. He only got 3 million more votes(by any means necessary). That is an easily peeled-off amount, especially when crunch time comes. That crunch time is 2006, in truth.
If they cannot be responsible stewards of the economy and do the prudent things necessary for good economic health, then we have an issue to whipsaw them with.
It is an issue they cannot deny forever.
The road to that issue will be sad, painful and tragic, but we are a slow and thick people. We need reality's harsh truths hammered into our heads.

but I'm not sure that you understand these people. I couldn't see in your profile where you live, but it sounds like you might be in a more blue area, or at least a repub but not fundie area.
These people are nuts- and I'm not exagerating. They really, honestly and earnestly believe that Bush is a mini-deity, put in place by God to cause the 2nd coming/Rapture, and that abortion and homosexuality are the greatest threats to mankind and life as we know it. In their minds, if there is an economic collapse, it will be God's punishment for us allowing gay people to freely walk the streets of America- or some other such nonsense.
They might see the economic truth about him/the repubs eventually, but I'll be surprised if it's as early as 2006.

8. People who have a lot of debt, should consider "bailing" before |
|
they pass that bankruptcy bill.. It's been stuck in conference for ages, but it will pass soon.
It might suck to be without credit, but we might be headed into a CASH-is-KING era (like the depression) anyway..
Our government is running up record deficits, but individulas are still expected to "play by the rules"..
Be sure to check with your laws before you do it.. Some states do not take your home.
My friend did this a few years ago, and other than the loss of credit cards and a trashed credit rating, she lost nothing but the debt.
Of course is you are a young person expecting to buy a house or car on credit, this is not a good idea, but for people who already have a house, and can pay cash for cars, you have little to lose except the crushing debt..
Can you imagine what would happen if millions of people just said "NO" to Citibank.MBNA,CapOne,BofA and all the others???
That would be something to behold..

13. It's a pity that there's no way to finance a chapter 7... |
|
:D
Still, with my job as it stands, and after advice from my credit counselor, I'd be lucky to get a chapter 13 - insider advice said that judges are avoiding chap 7 as often as possible; and for my case they wouldn't consider it.
I might do a chap 13 and be done with it.

|
More tax cuts to stimulate the economy. Its working, its getting stronger every day.
Debt doesnt matter, we will grow our way out of it when the stimulation from the tax cuts kicks in.
Trade deficits will be solved when the dollar gets low enough, everyone will want to buy american 'on the cheap'
Greenspan is a liar and only loves the rich. Look up Ayn Rand his mentor and hero.
Social programs are going going gone. Welcome to the land of Dickens.

said how the crises would pile up but the US would be trapped because otherwise, Europe or China would suffer a blow. And I thought: Well, does that really bother Bush/Cheney?" We are seeing I think a large scale economic competition against us and our strategies to pulverize other rivals into paying for our failings. It may backfire like everything else has and will into reducing America's dominance in the all importance financial system.
That leaves then only nukes, what with our fantastic army slogging and grinding itself down in the Middle east.
Remember, Bush was much much worse than what anyone dreamed in 2000. This nightmare is just beginning.

(hypothetically of course)
to tank the dollar till it's almost worthless (this process is already underway)... at that point, we become almost a third-world country and foreign interests start calling in their debt.
Anyone in the U.S. who has saved money is now SOL (unless they bought foreign currency, gold, real-estate or other non-U.S. currency-based investments). The middle class is completely wiped out, and we are left with only the poor and the wealthy.
U.S. goes bankrupt and, like any bankruptcies, starts paying off it's creditors, in order of foreign countries first. Any domestic creditor owed money is SOL (like a family loan that never gets paid).
Any foreign countries who can't get paid, are told *they* are SOL and if they don't like it, to kiss off (what are they really going to do anyway, our economy and world respect is already trashed anyway).
Now that the dollar is worthless, making product in the U.S. is so cheap, there is a massive influx of "in-sourcing"... foreign countries using us for labor. We enter another economic boom period, but this time, there is no possibility for a middle-class. The wage earners will be taxed so heavily (in order to maintain U.S. gov't spending), they won't be able to save money. The great class-war will be officially over before anyone knows it.

20. The corporate destruction of democracy |
|
spreads out like a cancer from the very birthplace and base of democracy. Outsourcing the middle class then insourcing new immigrant professionals who vote GOP or not at all, bring in more peons from Mexico to hasten the swarming boil of lower class competition which will drive down unified resistance. Ruin education except for the golden ladder and the benign largess of the upper class.
Build a new state for the Saudis(Georgia?) when their own oil depleted country gets too hot to handle. And all the loonie Moonie, Left Behind nuts, rich Arabs and other assorted diseased brains of the upper crust of mere numbers will sit like dragons over their hoards and on the bones of once free Americans.

Republican BS double speak from the 20's that they held close to the heart as America fell off the cliff into the Great Depression.
They learned NOTHING from the despair of the 30's except cheap labor is really nice when you still have a few million in the bank and your business didn't fold.
All workers rights,SS,ANY bill that would help working class people during the depression was sponsored and passed by Democrats. How did Republicans respond? They tried to gut workers rights and unions as much as possible in 1947 with the Taft/Hartley act.
People can trash Clinton as much as they want but he took the MASSIVE debt that Reagan and Bush ran up and paid the fucking thing off,and two years quicker than thought and then ran a SURPLUS--wonder why Republicans HATE him so damn much?
What will Bush do? Nothing, more of the same, big tax cuts for the wealthy,or that phony ass 23% Federal sales tax which will make common millionaires, multi millionaires off the backs of the working class and fixed income people.
