Is anyone else praying for the Rapture to come?
Edited on Sat Nov-20-04 10:34 AM by searchingforlight
I think we would all benefit from it coming right away and taking all the fundies away so that we can start to save the environment, the world from their hawkish, killing ways and allow the rest of us to live in Peace.

It seems that they are hell bent and making sure they destroy everything before they leave.

Edit: (Sarcasm)

3. The fundies would be surprised when they are left behind
Not that there is much Biblical support for the idea of the Rapture. Revelations was about the Roman empire.

4. I'm all for the Rapture.
If it gets rid of the Bible-thumping mouth-breathers, bring it on!

7. Just made the same observation the other day --
told a friend I hoped the Rapture would come soon so these frootloops would be hauled off somewhere and the rest of us can try to get back to a normal existence. I work with some of these freaks and one of these days I'm gonna tell 'em to go get raptured NOW and leave me the f*ck alone.

10. I hope I live long enough to see it.
People being sucked up into space, cars careening out of control, train wrecks, airplane crashes, mass chaos, fires, explosions, total destruction!

This is the kind of shit I live for.

12. The rapture is not real...
It is a misunderstanding of biblical words. Mocking God and His people is really not a good thing though, I would tread softly there...

15. You have got to be kidding. The fundies mock God everyday.
The God that I believe in is looking at them and shaking his head.

16. If there were such a
thing as the rapture, unfortunately, these people are going to be among the left behind. They are the folks Jesus "warned" against, following false leaders and all.

17. I didn't know what the Rapture was all about.
Some friend who couldn't resist the notion of saving me convinced me to come to the play "Left Behind" at her church. I was treated to a 3 1/2 hour long "play" which depicted what would happen to me, poor sinner, if I didn't confess and do the whole gambit.

At the end of the play, they even announced that they had "confession booths" open so you could secure your reservation to Heaven. I went home.

The one thing that impressed me during this long torture was the escapist feeling throughout the whole thing. "Don't worry, it'll come any minute, for sure, and you'll be free of all your earthly cares and worries". It's escapism, pure and simple.

This kind of dangerous philosophy encourages people to retreat into escapist thiking, avoiding responsibilities and indulging in a lot of daydreaming.

The fundies are here to stay. So are we, until our number's up.

Shame on these circus promoters for teaching such bullshit.

18. Oh, please...these righteous idiots waiting for Rapture...
...make me sick. Even if you are a Christian and you believe in the Rapture, and it really was going to happen, I'd think it's the height of arrogance to presume your particular state of, shall we say, eligibility? Yet they put those stupid stickers on their bumpers announcing their vehicle will be unmanned when the time comes. Gimme a break.

As other posters have pointed out, Revelations refers more to the Roman Empire than anything close to our time period. Morons.

This is why I roared with laughter earlier this year when the HBO Series "Six Feet Under" wiped out one of these fundies in the required 'who are we burying this week' pre-credit scene. The way they did it was just perfectly ironic.

20. Piss off a fundamentalist
Remind him of the 11 million that 'disappeared' in the 40's. Tell him he missed the rapture by more than half a century.

and when I do, I'll OWN you all!

Sadly, when fantasy and fact compete, fantasy wins. Things are going to get weird.
