IAEA to open dossier on Israel's Nuclear Arsenal
Edited on Wed Sep-03-03 09:00 PM by The Lone Liberal
It seems as if the The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will include Israel in the discussion on Iran’s nuclear program. There is current a demand that Israel sign the Nuclear Disarmament Treaty. This would be tantamount to admitting that they currently possess nuclear arms. Under current law this would preclude any further assistance from the US. If they refuse to sign, then it could open them up for the IAEA to demand inspection rights, and should they deny that request the IAEA could ask the UN to impose sanctions.

It is getting very sticky in the Middle East. Thanks the cowboy from Crawford, who has opened a whole can of worms and now will be hiding in Thunder Mountain while we eat them.

1. Whoa!
Does this mean Israel might bomb the UN to block release of the information? This has to be scaring the bejesus out of them.

2. can a court stop congress from sending money?
I mean seriously if it comes down to breaking a law vs. money to Israel they are going to break the law and if necessary make a new one to make it legal.

6. They sure will if they want to stay in Congress

Granted, Congress has become more of a ceremonial institution than anything else, but the Congresstrons like their perks.

So if AIPAC says bend over for Uncle Ariel, the only thing a wise Congresstron asks is "how far?"

5. holy dog shit
Israel began a nuclear program in the mid 1950's, and certainly had nuclear weapons by 1966 or 1967. Why so many Arabs attacked a nuclear power is a mystery. The CIA estimates Israel to now possess between 75 and 130 nukes

8. Which would have to be deployed remotely
Geography is not favorable to the use of WMD of that scale in the area without some less positive impact on Israel itself.

Even the nutcases in Likud might balk when ordered to nuke say, Lebanon, unless they were moved out of the region first.

It could be that the bush regime was considering the possible impact on oil facilities, thinking it would be more efficient to just depopulate the region in a shorter period of time, and some idealist at the UN got wind of it, and started a little flurry, which will have to be calmed, and somebody might have to have a tragic accident.
